IENG 2P10 - Fluid Mechanics
Compensation
Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds.
· Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate - $22.07 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 2024)
· Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate - $34.73 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 2024)
· In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant’s duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate.
Duties
The duties and responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant shall be in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement. These include scheduled contact time with students (leading weekly lab sessions, answering student questions, and holding office hours) and non-classroom time (preparation of tutorial content, marking/grading, exam proctoring, and other course-related administrative duties).
Qualifications
- Strong academic background in Fluid Mechanics – successful completion of undergraduate and/or graduate-level courses with high performance. Preference is given to applicants with mechanical engineering background.
- Practical problem-solving skills – ability to work through analytical and numerical fluid mechanics problems and explain solutions clearly to students.
- Experience with computational tools – familiarity with software such as MATLAB, ANSYS Fluent, or COMSOL for fluid simulations and data analysis.
- Effective communication and teaching skills – capable of leading tutorials, answering student questions, and providing constructive feedback.
- Laboratory and experimental experience – hands-on knowledge of fluid mechanics experiments, instrumentation, and data acquisition techniques.
