Requirements
  • A High School diploma or GED and at least three years of relevant work experience are required.
  • Experience working with at-risk or homeless young females is strongly preferred, and interest in working with this population is required.
  • An 8-hour security license is required; Covenant House will provide it to candidates who accept employment and do not have the license.
  • A driver's license is preferred; comfort driving a seven-passenger van is a plus.
  • Interest in working with youth who have experienced homelessness is required.
  • Strong multitasking skills and the demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects at once are required.
  • The ability to respond positively to supervision and coaching is required.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and problem-solving abilities are required.
  • The ability and willingness to move throughout the day is required.
  • A strong focus on child protection and resident safety is required.
  • Flexibility in the work schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays when needed, is required.
  • Adherence to attendance and punctuality requirements is required.
  • Dedication to the mission of Covenant House is required.
Responsibilities
  • Directly engage, supervise, and support youth residing at the Mother/Child site.
  • Ensure that the site, including youths' rooms, is clean and maintained in a safe condition.
  • Welcome youth to the site and orient them to site expectations, Covenant House's mission and principles, and child protection policies and protocols.
  • Assist youth with preparation for the day by ensuring they are awake, out of bed, fed, and on their way to work, school, or other activities on time.
  • Monitor program and client activities to maintain a safe and secure environment.
  • Cook or assist with cooking meals for youth, engage with them during mealtimes, and facilitate post-meal cleanup.
  • Participate in daily tidying and facilitate the work of facilities and maintenance staff to keep the site clean and well maintained.
  • Support Case Managers as needed by distributing appointment slips, following up on appointments, collecting and filing paperwork, and maintaining files and file compliance.
  • Maintain records in the Efforts to Outcomes computer system and enter required documentation promptly.
  • Escort youth to other agencies and services, including hospitals and school visits, when necessary.
  • Maintain healthy, supportive relationships with youth while observing boundaries and mutual respect.
  • Lead or participate in recreational and holiday activities at the site and on off-site trips.
  • Complete incident reports by the end of the shift and submit them to the appropriate parties.
  • De-escalate crises and respond to emergencies according to agency protocol as needed.
  • Participate in training and implementation activities for evidence-based and other proven social service models.
  • Perform other assigned duties as needed.
