Requirements
  • Be willing to learn asphalt quality control or heavy civil construction work.
  • Have strong attention to detail and be comfortable with basic math.
  • Follow specific instructions and testing procedures.
  • Use good judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Work effectively in a road construction environment.
  • Work outdoors and around active jobsites, asphalt plants, equipment, and traffic.
  • Lift up to 45 pounds and walk long distances.
  • Have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Have a clean three-year Motor Vehicle Record.
  • Be available for rotating weekend and night work as needed.
  • A current South Carolina Department of Transportation Asphalt Roadway Certification is preferred but not required; employees without it must complete the required training and certification process within the first six months of employment.
Responsibilities
  • Perform field testing in accordance with project specifications.
  • Complete required reports and paperwork accurately and on time.
  • Perform daily quality control tests on asphalt products.
  • Help ensure asphalt materials meet federal, state, local, and project-specific requirements.
  • Collect aggregate samples from rail cars, stockpiles, and other locations.
  • Obtain moisture samples and other required materials for testing.
  • Use laboratory and field equipment, including nuclear gauges, high-temperature ovens, and coring saws.
  • Assist with roadway testing and asphalt placement quality checks.
  • Support the company's quality goals and productivity standards.
  • Follow company safety, environmental, and quality procedures.
  • Communicate with the Quality Control Manager, plant teams, and field crews.
  • Work rotating weekend and night schedules as needed, with possible overtime.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous quality control, asphalt, construction, paving, plant, laboratory, materials testing, manufacturing, warehouse, equipment, mechanic, or other hands-on experience is helpful but not required.
