Requirements
  • Extensive experience with devices, circuitry, and systems operating at radio frequency, microwave, and millimeter-wave frequencies.
  • Ability to design circuitry for high-frequency receivers, transmitters, and signal generation, using design tools such as Microwave Office, Advanced Design System, High Frequency Structure Simulator, Sonnet, Simulation Program with Integrated Circuit Emphasis, or Cadence.
  • Knowledge of signal routing and packaging technologies for devices and subassemblies.
  • Ability to conceptualize component and system designs using schematics and block diagrams; lead project execution involving assembly, test, debugging, and optimization; and organize results for design reviews and customer presentations.
  • Ability to communicate clearly through speaking, writing, and presentations.
  • A Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering is required.
  • At least 15 years of work experience in the microwave and radio frequency industry at microwave and millimeter-wave frequencies.
  • Previous experience managing and developing technical employees.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to find creative and innovative solutions.
  • Strong laboratory skills using test equipment, with the ability to tune and align circuitry.
  • Ability to use MATLAB, Mathcad, or programming languages to perform complex analyses.
  • Proficiency with electrical design software such as AWR's Microwave Office or Advanced Design System.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to participate in preparing technical proposals for new business opportunities.
  • Ability to present to customers and executive management.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to meet project goals and deadlines while leading multiple project design teams and proposal tasks simultaneously.
  • Must be a United States citizen and able to obtain a security clearance.
Responsibilities
  • Lead an RF and microwave design engineering team in designing and developing complex solid-state power amplifiers and multifunction modules for defense and space applications, including frequency converters, synthesizers, high-isolation switches, noise sources, phase shifters, power detectors, solid-state power amplifiers, and variable-gain amplifiers.
  • Manage personnel development, new business proposals, and the successful design, development, production release, and transition of new products.
  • Manage employee development and operational improvements for the solid-state power amplifier and space component design group in support of company goals and objectives.
  • Participate in recruiting and team development.
  • Lead the design of radio frequency architectures and systems using chain analysis and frequency-planning tools, primarily using VSS.
  • Design radio frequency components using Advanced Design System, Microwave Office, High Frequency Structure Simulator, Sonnet, Simulation Program with Integrated Circuit Emphasis, or Cadence.
  • Evaluate and select devices appropriate to applications and customer requirements, including low-noise amplifiers, power amplifiers, filters, mixers, frequency multipliers, isolators, couplers, and phase-locked oscillators and synthesizers.
  • Perform trade studies for noise figure, power compression, spurious performance, and bandwidth.
  • Perform hardware layout, component evaluation, prototype construction, and testing.
  • Prepare test methods and specifications; analyze and test hardware to verify performance.
  • Lead preliminary, critical, and production readiness design reviews and present to management and customers.
  • Lead project design teams.
  • Provide guidance on technology trends and help drive industry competitiveness, particularly regarding size, weight, and power improvements.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Master of Science in Electrical Engineering is preferred.
  • Experience with space products is a plus.
  • Familiarity with High Frequency Structure Simulator, Computer Simulation Technology, and/or Sonnet for electromagnetic simulation is a plus.
