Requirements
  • At least 7 years of cloud or infrastructure engineering experience.
  • Strong production experience with Google Kubernetes Engine, virtual private cloud networking, identity and access management, Cloud SQL, Cloud Storage, and Artifact Registry.
  • Advanced Terraform experience, including reusable module design, state management, and multi-environment patterns.
  • Production Kubernetes expertise, including Helm chart development and management, role-based access control, resource tuning, and troubleshooting workloads at scale.
  • Hands-on experience with Istio service mesh, including sidecar injection, mutual TLS, VirtualServices, AuthorizationPolicies, and traffic management.
  • Understanding of container network interface fundamentals, including Cilium or Dataplane V2, east-west traffic flows, and network segmentation.
  • Experience developing continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines using Azure DevOps YAML pipelines or an equivalent, plus trunk-based development workflows.
  • Hands-on experience with secrets management, including HashiCorp Vault Kubernetes authentication and agent injection, and Google Cloud Secret Manager.
  • Proficiency in Bash, Python, or Go scripting, with the ability to write production-quality automation and tooling.
  • Experience implementing least-privilege identity and access management, certificate management, and policy-driven security controls.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work across infrastructure and application development teams.
Responsibilities
  • Operate and improve multi-region Google Kubernetes Engine clusters hosting hundreds of microservices across development, testing, and production environments.
  • Manage the Kubernetes platform layer, including Istio service mesh, cert-manager, external-dns, role-based access control, horizontal pod autoscaling, KEDA autoscaling, HashiCorp Vault secret injection, and Helm-based deployments.
  • Develop and maintain Terraform modules across infrastructure-as-code repositories for Google Kubernetes Engine, networking, Cloud SQL, Cloud Storage, Dataproc, Cloud Composer, Vault, and web hosting.
  • Maintain and extend Azure DevOps continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines using shared Terraform templates and multi-environment deployment workflows.
  • Support Confluent Kafka infrastructure, including Connect workers with JDBC source connectors, consumer group health monitoring, and Kafka-lag-based autoscaling with KEDA.
  • Manage Redis Enterprise clusters on Kubernetes with operator-managed lifecycle and replication.
  • Operate the observability stack, including Grafana Cloud, Alloy, Loki, Mimir, Tempo, Pyroscope, kube-prometheus-stack, Google Managed Prometheus, OpenTelemetry Operator and Collector, Beyla, and Kubecost.
  • Harden cluster security using NetworkPolicies, Pod Security Standards, admission policy enforcement, CrowdStrike Falcon, Lacework, kube-bench, and cert-manager with Let’s Encrypt ACME.
  • Support data infrastructure including Cloud SQL with PostgreSQL, Dataproc with Spark, Cloud Composer with Airflow, Matillion change-data-capture pipelines, Snowflake, and BigQuery.
  • Manage DNS across Azure DNS, Cloudflare, and Google Cloud DNS through external-dns, and support Azure API Management and Cloudflare CDN/WAF.
  • Partner with application development teams to troubleshoot deployment failures, tune resource limits and autoscaling, and resolve Kafka consumer lag and connectivity issues.
  • Contribute to the Internal Developer Portal using Backstage and to internal command-line tooling that enables self-service for product engineers.

  • Experience with event-driven architectures and Apache Kafka, including Confluent Platform, Connect, consumer group management, and KEDA-based scaling.
  • Experience with Redis Enterprise on Kubernetes, including operator-managed clusters and active-active replication.
  • Familiarity with the Grafana Cloud observability stack, including Alloy, Loki, Mimir, Tempo, Pyroscope, and OpenTelemetry.
  • Experience with Google Cloud data services, including Dataproc with Spark, Cloud Composer with Airflow, BigQuery, and Pub/Sub.
  • Familiarity with Open Policy Agent/Rego or Kyverno for policy enforcement.
  • Experience with Azure API Management, Cloudflare, or multi-cloud DNS management.
  • Familiarity with Matillion or similar extract-transform-load or change-data-capture tooling and Snowflake data warehousing.
  • Exposure to financial services or mortgage and loan servicing domains and associated compliance requirements.
  • Experience with Kubecost or similar financial operations tooling for cloud cost optimization.
  • Experience building or contributing to an Internal Developer Portal using Backstage.

Rocket Mortgage has made an equity investment in Sagent, a Warburg Pincus-backed mortgage servicing technology company, and established an ongoing commercial partnership. Sagent is developing the first cloud-native, end-to-end mortgage servicing system. Rocket Mortgage is a subsidiary of Detroit-based Rocket Companies, a fintech platform encompassing mortgage, real estate, title and personal finance businesses.
