Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in construction management or a related field plus 2,000 hours of industry experience is required, or an associate degree in construction management or a related field plus 4,000 hours of industry experience is required.
  • An associate degree plus a portfolio of work or projects related to Architecture, Engineering, and Construction courses, such as schedules and estimates, plus 6,000 hours of industry experience is required.
  • Documented industry-specific training or certification, such as National Center for Construction Education and Research certification or a contractor's license, plus 5,000 hours of industry experience is required.
  • Industry experience should be from the last 10 years; older experience may be considered if the applicant has continuously taught in the content area.
  • Applicants must hold or qualify for a post-secondary vocational credential in a related field such as construction management, construction, or architecture issued by the Aims Community College Career and Technical Education Office.
  • Applicants must submit a resume, cover letter, copy of transcripts, and applicable documented industry-specific training or certification.
  • Faculty members must submit academic transcripts from an accredited institution upon hire; foreign credentials require an evaluation by an approved credential-evaluation service.
  • If hired, applicants must provide documents verifying identity and authorization to work in the United States within three days of the hire date.
  • A criminal background check is required upon hire, and industry-specific screenings such as a motor vehicle record check, physical examination, or drug screen may also be required.
Responsibilities
  • Teach assigned construction management courses and other courses within the faculty member's area of expertise.
  • Facilitate classes covering project management, estimating, print reading, contracts, and construction materials and methods.
  • Prepare and distribute course syllabi on the first day of class, including course, grading, testing, and absence requirements.
  • Prepare, administer, and grade assignments and examinations in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and submit relevant student data to the chairperson regularly.
  • Follow procedures for requesting instructional and expendable supplies, textbook requisitions, and absence reports.
  • Complete and document project requests or worksheets for class projects and retain files for chairperson review and approval.
  • Coordinate and supervise teaching and laboratory activities, including the cooperative education component, to support the instructional program.
  • Use current technology, including computers, computer-assisted instruction programs, and audiovisual equipment, and learn additional technology needed to enhance learning.
  • Participate in required assessment, implementation, and evaluation measures.
  • Participate in temporary assignments lasting less than six months, such as curriculum development, short-term projects, meetings, and substitute duties, which may provide additional temporary pay.
