Requirements
  • A passion for customer service.
  • A secondary school diploma or General Educational Development equivalency certificate.
  • A Class B or C driver's licence with a Z endorsement authorizing operation of a vehicle equipped with air brakes.
  • An unblemished driving record.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment medical, physical, and hearing examinations, as well as drug and alcohol screening, in accordance with Ministry of Transportation regulations.
  • A valid passport.
  • The ability to lift objects weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Flexibility to adapt to schedule and shift changes.
  • A commitment to complying with the Commission's occupational health and safety standards.
  • Availability to work weekends and statutory holidays and willingness to work shifts.
Responsibilities
  • Drive the bus safely using defensive-driving techniques, maintain the schedule, and make designated stops on the assigned route.
  • Greet passengers in a friendly and courteous manner; provide information about routes, schedules, and transfer points; assist passengers with tie-down systems, access ramps, and lift platforms; provide other necessary assistance; and announce major roads, facilities, and important stops along the route using a microphone while driving the coach.
  • Collect valid fares using an electronic fare-collection system.
  • Inspect and prepare the assigned bus for proper operation by performing a pre-trip inspection.
  • Complete the detailed daily record of hours of service required by the Ministry of Transportation and comply with the Ministry's hours-of-service requirements.
  • Provide charter transportation services in Canada and the United States when called upon.
  • Comply with uniform requirements and all applicable regulations, rules, and policies of the Ontario Northland Transportation Commission.
  • Be punctual, reliable, and consistent in attendance to contribute to efficient and cost-effective public transportation service.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of and experience in the intercity bus transportation services industry.
  • Fluency in both official languages, English and French.
