Job Summary
Kairos Power is seeking a highly motivated Safety Analysis intern to execute postulated event analyses for the Hermes test reactor. The Safety Analysis intern will work in close consultation with the KP-SAM code development team, CFD, nuclear design, materials, reactor systems, I&C, testing, reliability, design integration, and licensing engineering staff to identify appropriate design inputs, select appropriate modeling choices, update and execute integrated analysis models in accordance with safety analysis methodologies, identify/assess analytical limits for the reactor protection system, and develop input to licensing documentation. In this role, you will contribute directly to the development and licensing of the KP-FHR.
Responsibilities
- Develops and uses models for assessment of postulated events using KP-SAM and other methods as appropriate.
- Assists Kairos design teams by performed integral systems analysis and identifying/assessing safety system actuation setpoints
- Develops and uses models for quantification of radiological source terms and associated dose consequence analysis
- Coordinates closely and collaborates effectively with other individuals and teams regarding analytical methods development, implementation, and integration of nuclear safety, design, and licensing
- Supports the resolution of key strategic issues associated with the KP-FHR design and licensing
- Supports continuous improvement efforts that improve automation of analysis and documentation work products
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- BS degree in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or equivalent. (Graduate level education preferred)
- Completed coursework in the areas of Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, and Reactor Physics
- Proven team player with excellent verbal and written communication/presentation.
- Ability to deliver products that meet quality assurance requirements (compliant with ANS 15.8)
- Experience with evaluation model development and execution
- Experience using system codes (e.g., KP-SAM, RELAP, RETRAN, TRACE) to perform integrated system analysis
- Familiarity with Linux, git, Python, and LaTeX.

The hourly range for this position is $28-$32 for employees working onsite at our Alameda, CA headquarters. The range provided in this job posting represents the typical range or starting rate of candidates hired in California.
