- At least one year of experience working with infants and children ages 2 months through 12 years.
- Ability to communicate and relate well with young children and adults.
- Ability to provide leadership and stability for program continuity.
- Ability to swim or enter the pool.
- Ability to respond to critical incidents visually and auditorily and act swiftly in an emergency.
- Ability to observe participant activities, enforce safety regulations, and apply policies and procedures.
- Physical ability to lead and participate in active sports, games, and curriculum activities with children.
- Physical ability to lift children as needed, change and clean a soiled child, interact with children, and direct play.
- Must be fingerprinted before reporting to work, with subsequent arrest notifications as required by licensing, state law, and government funders.
- Must obtain Adult and Child/Infant CPR/AED and First Aid certification within 30 days of hire from the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or American Safety & Health Institute.
- Oversee Child Watch operations and coordinate staff and children.
- Run Kids Night at the Y on the second and fourth Friday of each month.
- Support daily setup and breakdown and create program activities.
- Supervise operation of the Child Watch program.
- Ensure each child is signed in and out of the center.
- Communicate with parents, staff, children, participants, members, and coworkers in a professional and positive manner.
- Support program philosophies, policies, and procedures using positive discipline and redirection.
- Provide a safe environment for children.
- Maintain accurate attendance, child waiver, emergency information, daily incident, and supervisor log records.
- Assist in evaluating staff effectiveness.
- Perform housekeeping duties, including cleaning bathrooms, wiping tables, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming floors, taking out trash, and locking doors.
- Assist in planning, supervising, and implementing the daily schedule and curriculum.
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions.
- Provide support to other departments as needed.
- Wear the YMCA staff shirt and name tag during working hours.
- Inform appropriate staff of policy or safety concerns.
- Maintain a professional demeanor and uphold the YMCA image and mission statement.

San Diego, CA – June 28, 2023 – The YMCA of San Diego County proudly announces the appointment of Margie Newman Tsay to a two-year term as chair of the nonprofit’s board of directors, effective July 1.
The Center is partnering with San Diego Youth Services and the YMCA of San Diego to provide case management, transportation assistance, employment support, outreach to youth on the streets and basic needs such as food, showers, mail service, laundry and clothing.
