Job Description Summary:
The Ding lab at the University of Kansas Medical Center's Department of Pharmacology, Toxicology and Therapeutics is looking for a postdoctoral to investigate the role of mitochondria and innate immunity in alcohol associated liver disease and pancreatitis.
The research is hosted in modern laboratory space with state-of-the-art equipment and will build on a long history of innovative service to the KUMC research community.
Job Description:
JOB DUTIES:
Manage projects aimed at defining the role of mitochondrial dynamics in mitochondrial quality control and mtDNA induced innate immune response in ALD. This includes but is not limited to designing and executing experiments and using various molecular (e.g., qPCR) and histological (e.g., immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence) techniques to generate data.
Interpret experimental results and analyze data generated from their studies.
Lead knowledge-based dissemination through manuscript preparation efforts and take an active role in internal and external data presentations, and aid in the development of external funding applications.
Responsible for oversight of mouse colony management.
Obtain training and remain in compliance with Lab Animal Resources (LAR) standard operating procedures as determined by KUMC LAR policies.
Work independently in the design and performance of experiments, develop graphs, document and maintain statistics, and interpretation and dissemination of data.
Perform and manage routine lab maintenance and ordering of supplies.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Ph.D. or M.D. in biomedical sciences
This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skill set required to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is based on accreditation requirements, institutional standards of academic and professional excellence, alignment with peer institution benchmarks, and contributes to the credibility and effectiveness of the role within the university community.
Work Experience:
Two years of relevant experience in a wet bench laboratory
Two years of experience in liver research
Two years of experience in mentorship of junior technicians and trainees within a laboratory setting
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Ph.D. in biology or M.D. in hepatology with a focus on liver disease
Work Experience:
Three years of experience in molecular and cellular biology, reproductive biology, data evaluation and interpretation, data presentation, and scientific writing skills.
Three years of working independently, developing experiments related to the purpose of the laboratory
Skills
Critical thinking.
Cell culture/technical skills.

Compensation Statement:
The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
