Requirements
  • Graduate from an accredited Practical Nurse program with six months of patient care experience.
  • Be licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse within the state of South Carolina or a compact state.
  • Hold a current CPR card, either an American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers card or an American Red Cross Professional Rescuer card.
  • Demonstrate commitment to a patient-centered care philosophy through effective communication skills, professional demeanor, and interpersonal skills.
  • Articulate and support the departmental philosophy of excellent guest relations.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Be computer literate.
  • Hold a current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification or American Red Cross Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification.
Responsibilities
  • Provide patient- and family-centered care as a partner and adviser, assisting and supporting patients and families in managing their health care while respecting their culture, values, individual needs, health goals, and treatment preferences.
  • Apply critical reasoning and clinical judgment to expedite appropriate care and treatment, particularly for patients with complex or potentially life-threatening conditions.
  • Use critical thinking in clinical problem-solving within the scope of practice, knowledge, competency, and experience.
  • Assist medical staff with patient preparation, examinations, and procedures, including interviewing and screening patients to obtain personal data and chief complaints, documenting records, and obtaining vital signs.
  • Perform telephone and in-person screenings.
  • Participate in recording and reporting responsibilities.
  • Document findings relevant to patients' health care status or plan of care accurately and consistently in accordance with approved policies and procedures.
  • Prioritize and document incoming patient phone calls regarding medications and medical conditions, and review them with providers as needed for orders or changes.
  • Clean and stock examination rooms and other supply areas.
  • Document all delivered patient care in the medical record according to medical center policy.
