Requirements
  • BS in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related STEM field
  • 5+ years of experience in safety engineering for large electromechanical systems (defense, automotive, industrial automation, etc)
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, recommend, and drive safety into system design, equipment, and procedures in order to mitigate or eliminate hazards
  • Familiar with requirements development, system/software architecture, hardware/software design, software code implementation, test, verification and validation
  • Experience in driving a project to comply with a US safety standard (e.g., MIL-STD, NFPA, OSHA, ANSI, ISO, etc)
  • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State. Responsibilities
  • Analyze, recommend, and drive safety criteria in system design, equipment, and procedures in order to mitigate or eliminate hazards
  • Apply engineering principles and safety standards to prepare system safety program plans, preliminary hazard analyses, system/subsystem hazard analyses, functional hazard analyses, software system safety analyses and safety assessment reports
  • Develop, review, and update system safety artifacts including Risk Assessments, DFMEAs, FMECAs, and other application-specific documents
  • Coordinate with Mechanical, Electrical, and Software teams to develop and execute safety testing at a component and/or system level
  • Drive compliance with MIL-STD-882E for future products
  • Interface with US military personnel to understand the field risks and system safety improvements
  • Develop, review, and update operational & maintenance procedures to ensure end user safety
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in driving a defense project to comply with MIL-STD-882E
  • Basic understanding of embedded control systems
  • Experience doing data analysis on system performance to identify and mitigate safety failures
  • Proficiency in Python
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics
  • Ability to navigate Solidworks models
