Job Description

Director, University Advisement Center

This position provides leadership and strategic direction for the University Advisement Center (UAC) and serves as a key resource to the University on general advisement matters. The incumbent ensures that academic and career advisement services are accessible to all students, supporting their educational and personal goals in a timely, professional, and student-centered manner.

The position oversees two associate directors and the UAC staff, ensuring that every student who engages with the Center receives accurate information, timely appointments, and referrals to appropriate campus resources. The incumbent directly supervises advisement for more than 3,000 open major students and provides oversight for nearly 50 sections of Student Development courses annually, serving approximately 1,500 students.

What you’ll do in this position:

Strategic Leadership & Management

• Establish vision for the University Advisement Center (UAC) and serve as a leading authority on advising matters across the university
• Manage center operations, supervising two Associate Directors and six full-time advisors
• Oversee advisement for 3,000+ open major students

Student Advisement Delivery & Services

• Ensure effective delivery of open major advising services, providing timely academic and career guidance
• Connect students with advisors and appropriate campus resources to support educational and personal goals
• Provide individual and group advising, with expertise in complex cases

Teaching, Training & Development

• Supervise curriculum and instructors for nearly 50 Student Development course sections annually, serving ~1,500 students
• Develop and present educational programs, workshops, and learning materials; assess effectiveness and quality of content
• Teach Student Development courses as needed
• Coordinate and deliver training for advisors, staff, and others on student development theory, advising practices, and university policies

Committees, Policy & Institutional Engagement

• Represent the UAC on university-wide committees and contribute to policy discussions related to students and advising
• Collaborate on and oversee departmental and university initiatives and special projects

What qualifies you for this role:

Required

• A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
• Minimum educational requirement: master’s degree in counseling, advising, or related field.
• Minimum experience requirement: 5 years in advisement at the college level.

Preferred

• Ph.D. in counseling or related field.
• 10 years of advisement experience.

Pay Grade: 55

Typical Starting Pay: $89,500-$116,000
