Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • At least three years of related management experience supervising staff in shelter, transitional housing, or permanent supportive housing is required.
  • Experience working with the New York City Department of Homeless Services or similar city-operated organizations is required.
  • A New York City Fire Department F-80 Certificate of Fitness for Coordinator of Fire Safety and Alarm Systems is required.
  • Ability to implement and monitor policies and procedures in accordance with agency guidelines is required.
  • Knowledge of New York City Department of Homeless Services regulations covering physical plant management, food services management, and fire safety management is required.
Responsibilities
  • Ensure program adherence to federal, state, and New York City Department of Homeless Services regulatory guidelines governing physical plant and fire and safety management.
  • Manage and monitor the program environment to ensure regulatory guidelines and agency safety and security policies are followed and relationships remain positive.
  • Manage and monitor daily operations, vehicle and transportation systems, client MetroCard distribution, fire drills, children's school attendance, and building front-desk activities.
  • Maintain compliance with the Health, Safety, and Risk Management Manual.
  • Supervise onsite security guards and visiting service providers for clients and agencies.
  • Ensure all shelter units meet Department of Homeless Services and Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance standards upon client admission and throughout the shelter stay.
  • Manage and update critical files as needed.
  • Maintain program census and the status of all shelter units by monitoring client attendance, pass control, sign-in and sign-out sheets, and the nightly roster.
  • Ensure each family signs the nightly roster and attendance is recorded daily in DHS CARES.
  • Assist the budget department with monthly reconciliation in DHS CARES.
  • Review and approve staff time cards and vacation requests by agency deadlines.
  • Maintain adequate staff coverage at the assigned facility.
  • Provide support to the social service director and staff.
