Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering.
  • A Professional Engineer license in Oregon and/or Washington, or the ability to obtain one within six months of hire.
  • At least five years of design experience.
  • A solid understanding of civil engineering focused on state or local government roadway design.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation InRoads, or other appropriate design software; roadway computer-aided design and drafting and modeling experience is required.
  • Experience working in a consulting firm or municipal engineering department.
  • Familiarity with local development codes and standards.
Responsibilities
  • Perform civil engineering design work in a team environment with engineers, project managers, and staff across multiple service disciplines.
  • Prepare and oversee roadway sections, intersection layouts and sight-distance determinations, construction staging and traffic control, signing and striping, Americans with Disabilities Act design, interchange layouts, roadway drainage and hydraulic reports, alignment and right-of-way plans, temporary erosion-control plans, site-preparation plans, roadway profiles, and utility plans.
  • Assist in managing moderate- to large-scale roadway and highway design projects using local or American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials standards, and independently manage smaller projects.
  • Self-manage project tasks, manage multiple assignments, and maintain active communication with project managers.
  • Mentor and lead junior staff through project delivery.
  • Support and advise junior engineers and technical staff in developing plans, specifications, and estimates documents.
  • Write reports and technical memoranda.
  • Coordinate with subconsultants, maintain project schedules and budgets, and support client satisfaction.
  • Understand project scopes and budgets and support the project manager in maintaining project success metrics.
  • Participate in and represent Apex at professional organizations and functions.
  • Perform other assigned duties, including skilled professional tasks using computer-assisted drafting and design equipment.
Desired Qualifications
  • A strong background in road and highway design in Oregon and/or Washington.
  • Experience delivering state and local agency plans, specifications, and estimates projects in a consulting firm.
  • Familiarity with the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and Oregon Department of Transportation/Washington State Department of Transportation design manuals.
