About the role:
Samsara is looking for a Senior Manager, Finance and Strategy to partner with our R&D organization. Samsara’s R&D organization creates the industry-leading IoT products and features that power our customer experience. You will partner with business leaders to set and achieve corporate goals. You will drive quantitative and qualitative analysis to inform strategic judgements and identify optimization opportunities. You will support corporate financial goals by driving forecast models and providing accurate guidance to our leaders and investors. You will also lead our financial planning and analysis processes across Samsara’s R&D organization.
This role can be office-based in our San Francisco office or fully remote.
In this role, you will:
- Partner closely with leaders across our Software and Firmware Engineering teams to manage drive strategic decision-making and help guide investment choices
- Lead FP&A processes (e.g., forecasts, closes, annual and long-range planning) across Samsara’s R&D organization
- Own managing and forecasting major drivers of Samsara’s financial health including: COGS and Gross Margin, Cloud and Cell infrastructure costs, and employee expenses
- Build and monitor KPIs to inspect business health and performance
- Analyze financial results, prepare monthly and quarterly management reporting, and support operating review meetings with VPs and EVPs of Engineering and Finance
- Build scalable processes and mechanisms to enhance financial visibility, control and planning effectiveness that supports the next wave of Samsara’s growth
- Lead, develop, and manage a team of two senior financial analysts
- Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices
- Hire, develop and lead an inclusive, engaged, and high performing team
Minimum requirements for the role:
- 10+ years of experience in Corporate Finance, financial planning and analysis, or strategic finance experience
- 3+ years of People management and development experience
- Strong financial modeling and analysis capabilities
- Ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally
- Strong communication and presentation skills; comfortable presenting to senior management
An ideal candidate also has:
- Experience at a high-growth tech company
- Prior partnership with technical leaders
- Ability to lead teams and drive longer-term initiatives while balancing delivering results
- Willingness and ability to build new financial processes and mechanisms
- Ability to thrive in a fast-growing environment with high degrees of ambiguity
- Familiarity with AWS cloud cost management
- Expertise working with systems (e.g., Adaptive Planning, NetSuite, Salesforce, Workday, etc.)
- Experience working with large datasets and technical data management and analysis skills (e.g., SQL, Tableau, etc.)

At Samsara, we have adopted a flexible way of working, enabling teams and individuals to do their best work, regardless of where they’re based. We value in-person collaboration and know a change of scenery and quiet space to work is welcomed from time to time, but also appreciate that the world of work has changed. Our offices remain open for those who prefer to collaborate or work in-office, but we also encourage fully remote applicants.
