Responsibilities
  • Plan, coordinate, monitor, and report all geologic and geosteering activities for one or more horizontal drilling rigs.
  • Prepare geological prognoses for permitting and drilling of horizontal wells.
  • Collaborate with exploration and development geologists to support asset teams with correlations, mapping, and prospecting.
  • Collaborate with geophysical staff by incorporating seismic data into well planning, hazard mitigation, and risk assessment.
  • Geosteer horizontal wells using StarSteer or similar software and incorporate available data into operational decision-making.
  • Integrate with broader asset teams to optimize geologic operations with technical teams, including completions and production engineering.
  • Oversee and frequently communicate with mud loggers and remote geosteering teams.
  • Communicate and collaborate with drilling engineering and directional drilling teams.
  • Conduct post-drill assessments of hazards and lessons learned to improve operational efficiency and safety.
  • Leverage available artificial intelligence tools to strengthen operational performance.
  • Remain available by phone and email 24/7 to support ongoing operations.
  • Prepare for future development and exploration projects throughout the company’s operational areas.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Continental Resources expands Permian Basin position with FireBird Energy II acquisition

Continental Resources has agreed to acquire FireBird Energy II LLC, a Quantum Capital Group portfolio company, significantly expanding its Permian Basin position. The acquisition adds approximately 54,000 net acres in the Midland Basin adjacent to Continental's existing operations. The assets include approximately 147,000 net resource acres across more than six stacked-pay reservoirs and are 95% operated. They currently produce approximately 32,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, 69% of which is oil, and include 307 gross operated development locations. The transaction represents Continental's continued Permian expansion, growing its acreage by more than 40% over the past 14 months, including this acquisition. Continental President and CEO Doug Lawler stated the assets are highly complementary to their existing footprint and provide deep inventory of high-quality opportunities. The transaction is expected to close in September 2026, subject to customary closing conditions.
