Metropolis is a technology-driven facility-management company that focuses on parking solutions using computer vision to enable checkout-free payments. Its system detects vehicles and parking events via cameras and sensors, allowing drivers to pay automatically without stopping at a gate. The platform integrates into real estate operations, Class A office buildings, multi-garage complexes, and valet services to improve asset productivity and streamline operations. Compared with others, Metropolis supports a wide customer base across North America, operates in over 360 cities, processes more than $4 billion in payments annually, and has grown through significant funding rounds and the acquisition of SP Plus Corporation. Its goal is to expand its platform’s capabilities and market reach, helping property owners and managers increase efficiency and revenue by embedding its payment and facility-management tools directly into daily operations.

Metropolis has expanded its aviation services across key US airports, rolling out its AeroParker reservations platform at six regional airports since December 2025, including Salt Lake City International, New Orleans International, and Milwaukee Mitchell International. The company now operates at approximately 75 airports and has launched seamless drive-in, drive-out technology at 10 locations. The parking operator has deployed remote check-in at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and is launching curbside concierge services at George Bush Intercontinental Airport. Metropolis is also partnering with Joby to provide baggage handling for passengers on Blade Urban Air Mobility flights between Manhattan and New York-area airports. Following its $1.5 billion acquisition of SP+ in 2024, Metropolis operates over 4,200 locations across North America, serving 50 million customers annually.
Metropolis Technologies, backed by SoftBank, raised $1.6 billion to expand its AI-powered technology beyond parking lots into sectors like retail and restaurants. The funding includes a $500 million Series D round led by LionTree, valuing the company at $5 billion, and a $1.1 billion loan led by J.P. Morgan. The capital will be used to hire talent and develop products for new verticals. Metropolis aims to create a "Recognition Economy" for seamless transactions.
Metropolis has appointed Lookman Olusanya as its new CFO, effective June 30. Olusanya previously held financial leadership roles at Square, Google Cloud, and AWS. The AI company, known for its checkout-free payment experiences, is nearing a $5 billion valuation as it fundraises. Metropolis serves over 50 million customers, processes $5 billion in annual transactions, and gains 35,000 new members daily.
Oosto, formerly AnyVision, was sold for $125M to Metropolis, primarily in shares. Despite raising $352M, including $25M from SoftBank, Oosto struggled to commercialize its facial recognition tech, with annual revenue at $10M. The sale was influenced by Eldridge Industries, a shareholder in both companies. Oosto faced reputational issues after reports of its tech being used for surveillance, leading to a rebrand and investor withdrawals, including Microsoft and Bosch.
