Requirements
  • A Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university is required.
  • At least 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering and management is required.
  • Knowledge of design standards and codes is required.
  • Knowledge, application, and specification of piping materials is required.
  • Experience developing material procurement specifications is required.
  • Knowledge of sizing piping systems, including compressible fluid piping systems, is required.
  • Experience with flexibility and stress analysis of piping systems is required.
  • Knowledge of manual valve sizing, use, and application is required.
  • Ability to identify, apply, and specify safety valves and devices to maintain the mechanical integrity of piping systems is required.
  • Ability to identify, apply, and specify steam traps and liquid drainers is required.
  • Knowledge of other disciplines’ deliverable development is required to coordinate design efforts.
  • Understanding of schedule constraints and information requirements for producing mechanical deliverables is required.
  • Ability to accurately estimate completion of assigned tasks is required.
  • Ability to develop construction cost estimates, detailed engineering schedules, and man-hour budgets is required.
  • Ability to determine construction material quantities is required.
  • Ability to develop design criteria and scopes of work is required.
  • Ability to create mechanical installation documents from vendor equipment drawings is required.
  • Ability to develop mechanical installation specifications is required.
  • Experience estimating and scheduling professional service hours and assessing the progress and quality of mechanical work is required.
  • Knowledge and application of engineering design and computer-aided drafting standards is required.
  • Ability to lead a small team to deliver on commitments is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.
  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time is required.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise and provide technical direction to a team of engineers while ensuring timely, cost-effective, and high-quality delivery of mechanical deliverables and services.
  • Review and approve all mechanical deliverables.
  • Validate professional services and construction estimates at project onset and track changes as projects progress.
  • Perform engineering activities including stress analysis, construction specifications, material procurement specifications, calculations, and piping estimates.
  • Produce professional service estimates for project deliverables, studies, estimates, change notices, and proposal development.
  • Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies to determine efficient solutions to engineering tasks.
  • Establish design criteria incorporating client requirements, scope and design bases, and applicable state, local, and federal standards and codes.
  • Establish and communicate permitting requirements to the project team.
  • Initiate timely change notices when scope deviations affect schedule, deliverables, or project cost.
  • Plan and organize team work and communicate plans to the team, project leadership, and client.
  • Track discipline performance budgets, schedule commitments, and quality standards using project-control tools.
  • Delegate work to engineers according to their technical skills and experience, then follow up on progress and quality.
  • Consult with design leaders from other disciplines and follow up to ensure efficient progress and quality.
  • Produce detailed design calculations and sketches for project construction materials.
  • Produce project designs that use construction materials efficiently and emphasize ease of construction and client expectations.
  • Check other engineers’ calculations for accuracy and conformance to codes, specifications, design criteria, and engineering practice.
  • Produce construction specifications.
  • Monitor drawings in progress for conformance to design calculations and specifications.
  • Assist the drafting group in resolving routine layout and detailing problems and provide sketches and details needed to complete engineering drawings.
  • Produce bid packages for mechanical purchase inquiries covering equipment, materials, and subcontract pricing.
  • Participate in planning training programs, continuous improvement opportunities, and staff professional development.
  • Maintain communication and presentation activities with project teams, clients, and cross-divisional partners.
Desired Qualifications
  • Professional Engineering registration is highly preferred.
