Job Summary
We are seeking a Trucking Underwriter to assess, analyze, and manage risk for commercial trucking insurance policies. This role involves evaluating applications, determining appropriate pricing and coverage, and maintaining a profitable book of business. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in commercial auto and trucking underwriting, strong analytical skills, and the ability to build relationships with agents and brokers.

Position Responsibilities

Risk Assessment & Underwriting

Review and evaluate new and renewal commercial trucking insurance applications.
Analyze risk exposure, loss history, and underwriting guidelines to determine eligibility, coverage terms, and pricing.
Ensure policies comply with company underwriting standards and regulatory requirements.

Portfolio & Relationship Management

Develop and maintain strong relationships with agents, brokers, and clients.
Collaborate with underwriting teams to ensure profitability and risk selection.
Monitor and manage a book of business, making recommendations for renewals, endorsements, or cancellations.

Market & Industry Analysis

Stay updated on trends, regulations, and changes in the commercial trucking and transportation insurance industry.
Provide insights and recommendations for underwriting strategy based on market conditions.

Collaboration & Leadership

Work closely with claims, loss control, and actuarial teams to ensure proper risk assessment.
Mentor junior underwriters and provide training on underwriting best practices.
Support the development of underwriting policies and procedures to enhance efficiency and profitability.

Minimum Qualifications

3+ years of commercial truck underwriting experience in an insurance carrier or brokerage.
Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, insurance, or a related field (CPCU, AU, or other industry designations preferred).
Technical Skills: Strong understanding of trucking risk factors, DOT regulations, and fleet underwriting.
Ability to assess risk exposure, analyze data, and make informed underwriting decisions.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with agents, brokers, and clients.
Familiarity with underwriting software, rating tools, and policy management systems.

The starting annual pay scale for this position is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on factors such as skills, qualifications, training, and experience. In addition, the company offers comprehensive benefits including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k) plan with match, paid time off, and other benefits.

ISC's salary ranges are determined by role and level. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations and could be higher or lower based on a multitude of factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

National Pay Range

$62,676—$99,670 USD
