Requirements
  • A two-year Landscape Technician or Skilled Trades-related diploma or apprenticeship, or a related secondary diploma.
  • A minimum of three years of directly related experience in General Parks Maintenance.
  • Recognized Playground Instructor Certification maintained in good standing.
  • Certified Landscape Technician designation.
  • Current Standard First Aid, CPR C, and AED certification.
  • Strong administrative skills to complete paperwork and computer work and ensure quality standards.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills to resolve issues effectively.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize projects and work assignments effectively.
  • Working knowledge of computer programs, including Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to exercise discretion, judgment, and diplomacy.
  • Ability to schedule staff and distribute workload fairly and equitably.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to train new staff and monitor performance.
  • Ability and willingness to respond outside regular working hours on an on-call rotation.
  • A valid Class DZ driver's licence, the ability to qualify for the Town's safe driver program criteria, and demonstrated experience operating vehicles over 11,000 kg GVW.
  • Participation in an after-hours on-call rotation.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain all parkland and other municipally owned properties, including playgrounds, field houses, park amenities, the parks garbage collection program, landscape construction, and special events.
  • Control inventory.
  • Provide guidance and direction to frontline staff, including training and performance monitoring.
  • Schedule and plan work.
  • Inspect and monitor General Parks Maintenance programs, including safety compliance and customer service delivery, and respond to vehicle and equipment issues.
  • Prepare and complete required reports and paperwork.
  • Inspect work quality and ensure staff operate safely according to established Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions.
  • Provide feedback to staff on job performance.
  • Support the Supervisor in resolving staff performance issues.
  • Monitor work activities and changing operational conditions; identify and respond to safety concerns, service disruptions, resource requirements, and emerging issues.
  • Document, communicate, and escalate significant, recurring, or unresolved operational concerns, including observed job-performance issues, to the Supervisor Operations - Parks.
  • Participate in the Working Foreperson after-hours on-call rotation, including winter snow and ice control operations.
