Requirements
  • Master’s Degree from an accredited graduate program in a mental health related field, or social work
  • Current licensure as an independent behavioral health clinician in Massachusetts at LICSW (Social Worker), LMHC (Mental Health Counselor), or LMFT (Marriage and Family Therapist)
  • Ability to prove U.S. Citizenship and fluent in English
  • Willing to accept assignments on short notice to include weekends
  • Capable of covering on a full-time basis assignments of varying length from a weekend to two weeks
  • Advanced knowledge of brief therapy and solution-focused counseling methods
  • For Child and Youth Behavioral positions (CYB) must meet Magellan MFLC CYB criteria for experience with children and youth and specialty in child and adolescent development/psychology
  • Ability to quickly engage and communicate with military members, spouses or children and respond quickly to emergent situations in any physical location on a military installation and/or within a school setting
  • Ability to traverse distances within the base to indoor and outdoor locations and work in various weather conditions and military base environments
  • May need to comply with site-specific requirements including immunizations or vaccinations and provide records
  • Develops an excellent working relationship with installation/facility POC and establishes presence on the installation where service and family members feel comfortable approaching the counselor
  • Maintains confidentiality and linkage to community resources; provides appropriate linkages
  • Ability to respond to critical incidents and special requests as directed by POC and approved by the OSD program manager
  • Maintains reporting accuracy by entering counselor activity data daily through smartphone or web application
  • Possesses strong listening skills and ability to build rapport with service personnel clients, family members, students, parents and co-workers
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal instruction and guidance
  • Participates in regular in-services/training, Quality Improvement committees or other contract activities as assigned
  • Understands DoD protocol for duty to warn and restricted reporting
  • Develops and maintains excellent working relationships with installation/facility POCs
  • Creates a confidential environment in which service and family members feel comfortable approaching the counselor
Responsibilities
  • Provides non-medical, short term, solution focused counseling directly to adults, children, and youth of service members including assessment, brief counseling and consultation, action planning, referral to resources and follow-up
  • Delivers training and health and wellness presentations, participates in health fairs and other base/installation activities
  • Enters counselor activity data daily through smartphone or web application ensuring reporting accuracy while maintaining confidentiality and anonymity
  • Assists CYB staff in supporting CDCs, DoDEA and community schools, youth programs and summer camps, and provides parent training and guidance
  • Establishes and maintains working relationships with community resources and provides appropriate linkage
  • Partners with POC to provide Adult and CYB services addressing the needs of the installation/facility
  • Responds to critical incidents and special requests as directed by POC and approved by the OSD program manager
  • Creates a presence on the installation so service members and families feel comfortable approaching the counselor and recognizes the program as confidential; for CYB counselors creates a presence in child and youth settings and is available to children, youth and staff
  • Maintains ability to work with DoD site-specific requirements and ensure compliance with installation policies
  • Works with DoDEA and community schools and youth programs to provide services during on-demand, surge, and summer camp assignments
  • Participates in regular supervision and communicates trends and issues to Regional Supervisors/Directors
  • Meets reporting requirements and maintains confidentiality and linkage to resources
  • Manages duty to warn and restricted reporting according to DoD protocol and staffs the cases with Regional Supervisor/Regional Director
  • Responds to critical incidents and special requests as directed by POC and approved by the OSD program manager
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior MFLC CYB experience and specialty in child and adolescent development/psychology
  • Experience working in a school setting to qualify ARC role backing up a school position
  • Experience with Department of Defense policies and DoDEA schools
  • Current immunizations or vaccination records as required by site-specific requirements
  • Experience with providing training and health and wellness presentations in base/community settings
  • Previous experience in DoD or military community service programs
  • Strong relationships with DoDEA, CDCs and community schools
