Job Description
Work Environment:
Regularly exposed to the risk of blood-borne pathogens and/or diseases. Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances. Exposed to unpleasant elements, accidents, injuries and illnesses. Subject to varying and unpredictable situations. Must be able to handle emergency or crisis situations. Involves prolonged standing and walking. May be needed to assist with lifting and moving patients.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but may be responsible for as many as 150 staff members providing administrative direction on the evening and night shift.
Financial Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:
Appropriately and on a timely basis assigns beds based on the diagnosis and needs of the particular patient.
Makes regular rounds proactively identifying problems and utilizes an organized approach to hospital-wide issues. Is able to communicate between departments, resolve conflicts and report. Evaluates and adjusts staff as appropriate.
Processes burial transits and notifies appropriate funeral facilities.
Responds to emergency codes, patient concerns and serves as the resource person for staff and physician after hours.
Prepares written documentation as required by the profession of the department and the medical center.
Performs other miscellaneous and related duties as required.
Physical Requirements:
Physical requirements are primarily related to the essential functions of any job. In order to perform the essential functions of this position, you must be able to –
Stand, walk, use hands, reach, talk, hear and smell.
Must be able to lift or exert energy up to 10 pounds 50% of the time and 25 pounds 25% of the time up to 50 pounds 25% of the time.
Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more) color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances) and ability to focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring and object into focus).
Mental Requirements:
Must possess the ability to read, analyze and interpret complex scientific, clinical or business journals, financial reports or legal documents. Ability to respond to sensitive inquiries or complaints from guests, regulatory agencies, staff and members of the business community. Ability to write persuasive correspondence, speeches and articles for publication. Ability to effectively present information to top management, large public groups, and boards of directors.
Ability to perform more complex math functions (add, subtract, multiply and divide) to include calculating percentages, averages, volume ratio and interpreting graphs- using numbers, money and units of measure.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to
deal with concrete and abstract concepts and interpret verbal, nonverbal and written instructions.
Age Groups:
This position primarily interacts with all age groups and provides indirect patient care. All staff members must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to meet the physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, and related needs of the persons in the assigned work area.
Additional Job Description
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate degree in nursing required. Any staff hired after November 1st, 2024, must obtain a bachelor’s degree in nursing within 2 years of hire. Must have a current license in the state of South Carolina as a registered nurse. Two-Three years of related nursing experience is required, three of hospital supervisor experience preferred. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
