Requirements
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in PSV or Heavy Vehicle Maintenance.
  • Previous experience as a PSV Engineer, HGV Technician, Bus Mechanic, Vehicle Technician, Mechanical Engineer, or Heavy Vehicle Engineer.
  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding experience within a workshop or fleet environment.
  • Experience using engineering tools, workshop equipment, and vehicle diagnostic systems.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an engineering team.
  • Good understanding of health and safety procedures within engineering and transport environments.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.
Responsibilities
  • Carry out preventative maintenance and reactive repairs on buses, PSVs, vehicles, and engineering equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults using advanced diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Complete repairs, modifications, and upgrades in line with Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency, safety, and engineering standards.
  • Support fleet reliability through effective fault finding and technical problem solving.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, manuals, and technical documentation.
  • Ensure all maintenance work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
  • Maintain accurate engineering records, inspection reports, and maintenance documentation.
  • Work collaboratively with workshop teams, supervisors, and operational departments.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve vehicle reliability and workshop efficiency.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to junior engineers and apprentices where required.

Arriva's €2.46bn Sales Post-Acquisition

Transport giant Arriva, based in Sunderland, reported revenues of €2.46 billion in 2024, the year it was acquired by US investors I Squared Capital for £1.4 billion. Operating profit was €127 million, with a pre-tax profit of €156 million. Capital investments totaled €285 million. Contract revenues were €1.76 billion, and passenger revenue was €665 million. The UK bus division had a turnover of €639 million, while the UK trains business reported €758 million in revenue.
