Requirements
  • 8–12+ years of legal experience, ideally including meaningful time in-house at a technology or healthcare technology company
  • J.D. from an accredited law school; licensed to practice law in New York or another U.S. jurisdiction
  • Deep experience reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts: SaaS SOWs, MSAs, BAAs, vendor agreements, and partnership structures
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA and healthcare data privacy: fluent enough to spot issues, ask the right questions, and know when to bring in specialized outside counsel
  • Comfort operating in ambiguity and making sound risk calls without perfect information or a full playbook
  • Ability to make complex legal concepts clear and actionable for non-legal stakeholders at every level of the organization
  • A builder's mentality: you like creating systems and processes, not just reviewing individual documents
  • Track record of being trusted by cross-functional partner
  • Strong executive presence and comfort presenting to and advising senior leadership
Responsibilities
  • Evaluate, strengthen, and expand the frameworks, templates, and processes that let Courier Health manage its legal affairs without slowing down. From commercial agreements to data processing addenda, you would ensure that the right structures exist and that they're adopted by teams.
  • Partnering across the organization to help navigate key decisions. You will be asked to be present, practical and decisive, setting up legal to be an accelerant, not a bottleneck, to decision-making.
  • Serve as a sounding board for the CFO and executive team on legal risk across the business. Flag what matters, contextualize what doesn't, and help leadership make confident decisions with the information they need.
  • Courier Health handles sensitive patient data on behalf of the world's leading biopharma companies, and we take that responsibility seriously. You will be accountable for ensuring the right legal and compliance frameworks are in place, working closely with specialized outside counsel on HIPAA and data privacy matters, and ensuring that nothing falls through the cracks.
  • Design how legal work flows at Courier Health: intake, triage, turnaround expectations, and escalation paths. Build systems that keep legal proactive, and not reactive.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in life sciences, pharmaceutical, or digital health environments
  • Familiarity with state privacy law (CCPA, CPRA) and evolving AI/data governance frameworks
  • Experience supporting fundraising rounds, equity management, or board governance
  • Prior experience as a company's first or sole in-house counsel

Courier Health Raises $16.5 Million For Industry'S First Patient Crm Solution Designed For Life Sciences

Norwest Venture Partners-led financing helps meet growing demand for scalable patient engagement platformNEW YORK, July 9, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- Courier Health , a technology company reimagining how life science manufacturers engage and support patients, today announced a $16.5 million Series A led by Norwest Venture Partners with participation from existing investor Work-Bench. The funding will support continued product innovation and hiring across engineering and sales to bring the company's purpose-built customer relationship management (CRM) platform to more biopharma partners in search of a comprehensive system for coordinating and personalizing the patient journey.Specialty medicines made up 93% of all drug approvals and the vast majority of R&D pipelines last year. Biopharma companies are building internal organizations to provide access, affordability and adherence support for these innovative therapies, yet they lack the specialized technology and data-driven visibility to coordinate efficiently across internal and external stakeholders."The number of specialty medicines has exploded over the last decade, forcing the evolution of commercial models to focus on the patient experience," said Danny Sigurdson, founder and CEO of Courier Health. "Unfortunately, the industry average remains that 60% to 70% of patients who are prescribed a specialty medicine either never start or discontinue within the first few months. We are thrilled to work with Norwest Venture Partners to advance our product innovation and add best-in-class talent to help more patients start and stay on these critically important medicines."Courier Health provides the only patient-based CRM platform developed specifically for biopharma field access, patient services and marketing teams to gain complete visibility and control over the end-to-end patient journey. The platform connects disparate data sets, enabling centralized patient and provider management, omnichannel workflow automation and advanced analytics—without the high cost of custom-built software
