Requirements
  • At least three years of healthcare experience with emphasis on front-end processes, including patient responsibility areas such as deductibles, co-payments, and out-of-pocket maximums.
  • Basic math and keyboarding skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of health insurance eligibility, benefits, and claims processing.
  • Knowledge of Revenue Codes, CPT/HCPCS codes, and diagnosis codes.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to maintain a courteous and respectful manner during difficult or highly charged emotional interactions.
Responsibilities
  • Perform insurance eligibility checks for upcoming and scheduled appointments and services to validate coverage and network exceptions.
  • Add alerts to appointments for co-payment and balance amounts due at the time of service.
  • Determine the patient’s or guarantor’s financial ability to pay and assess and offer payment alternatives according to established company guidelines.
  • Gather insurance information from patients or guarantors by telephone or face to face when previously gathered information is incorrect or missing.
  • Provide cost-of-care estimates, discuss financial arrangements when needed, and collect appropriate deductible and maximum out-of-pocket amounts.
  • Inform self-pay customers or customers concerned about their ability to pay about the Financial Assistance Program.
  • Respond to insurance and billing inquiries and follow up with appropriate resources as needed.
  • Communicate with Admissions, Utilization Review, and Patient Account staff regarding non-financial questions and concerns.
  • Review and respond to assigned claims, accounts, or patient correspondence within defined company timelines.
  • Advocate for coverage when necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • An Associate’s degree in accounting or a related field.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
