A Day in the Life
In Medtronic Neuromodulation R&D, we focus on the development of cutting-edge medical devices and therapies that modulate the nervous system. The Brain Modulation product portfolio includes MRI-Guided Laser Ablation Technology for Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery (Visualase; VSL) and Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS). This Senior Scientist role contributes to the research and development of innovative new products, procedures, therapies, and technologies in Brain Modulation.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
- Develop core technical expertise in VSL and DBS
- Develop core expertise in medically refractory epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, and other chronic brain disorders
- Design and execute preclinical and premarket clinical studies to evaluate the scientific, clinical, and technical feasibility of applying new therapy and technology concepts to current products and innovations
- Analyze data, write research reports, prepare and deliver presentations on the research, submit patent disclosures, and publish abstracts and manuscripts
- Collaborate closely with Marketing, Product Development, Regulatory, and Clinical Research teams to support the development of new therapies, products, and features.
- Represent Medtronic Neuromodulation externally with our Customers and Key Opinion Leaders
Required Knowledge and Experience:
Requires a Baccalaureate degree
Minimum of 4 years of research and development experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years experience.
Nice to Have
- PhD, or equivalent; 5 years of relevant experience with Masters degree
- Proficiency in standard statistical methods with strong analytical, problem-solving, and experimental design skills for addressing complex technical challenges.
- Deep experience with large data set processing for modeling and algorithm development using computing environments such as Matlab and Python
- Experience working with different image modalities including MRI, CT, Ultrasound
- Working knowledge of neuroscience, neuroanatomy and histology
- Ability to learn and follow policies and procedures that comply with regulations
- Dynamic team player with strong interpersonal, leadership, and team skills who can work effectively and proactively on cross-functional teams
- History working in regulated medical industries and with US FDA and EU MDR regulations and standards
- Experience with Thermal Device technology and product development (RF, Ultrasound, Laser)
- Experience in animal model development and GLP studies
- Experience in business development, market research, user needs, voice of customer
- Experience working directly with clinician researchers and CROs

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$106,400.00 - $159,600.00This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
