Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED is required for all levels.
  • For Sterile Processing Technician I and II and III, certification through CRCST - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)
  • For Sterile Processing Technician II, at least twelve months of experience in sterile processing
  • For Sterile Processing Technician III, at least two years of experience in sterile processing
Responsibilities
  • Maintain adequate inventory for assembly of instruments and equipment
  • Perform and participate in the decontamination and cleaning of all instrumentation received, including instrumentation and equipment received from all units according to established standards and procedures
  • Prepare case carts and trays for decontamination and load them into washer and/or sterilizer as prescribed procedure
  • Operate the index washers, cart washers, ultrasonic cleaners as well as manually cleaning instruments and equipment as prescribed by established standards and procedures
  • Inspect all instruments for cleanliness, proper function, and breakage by viewing the instruments before assembly
  • Use appropriate container, wrap or pouch according to the size of the instrument or equipment
  • Sterilize instruments and surgical trays by following prescribed policies and procedures
  • Know how to run tests on all sterilizers, monitor and document that all parameters have been met
  • Use chemicals in the appropriate fashion taking into consideration the intended use of chemical as well as chemicals function: knowledge of appropriate PPE is also necessary
  • Participates in expediting the OR schedule by assisting the other members of the OR Team in obtaining the instruments/equipment necessary for the procedure in a timely manner
  • Assembles and distributes case carts accurately and in a timely manner
  • Ability to travel between sites as needed, based on departmental needs
Desired Qualifications
  • Completion of a Sterile Processing or Surgical Technologist program
  • Basic computer skills and use of an Electronic Medical Record system
  • Knowledge of instrumentation
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
