Requirements
  • Active, unrestricted State Registered Nurse license.
  • Minimum 2-4 years of clinical nursing practice, preferably hospital nursing, utilization management, and/or case management.
  • At least 1 year of utilization review or medical claim review experience.
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal regulations.
  • In-depth knowledge of ICD-9, CPT, and HCPCS.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate, problem solve, and work effectively with people; work independently; handle multiple projects; maintain attendance; adhere to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Knowledge of InterQual and other references for length of stay and medical necessity determinations.
  • Experience with National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).
  • Active licensure in good standing as a Registered Nurse.
Responsibilities
  • Non-exempt employee, 40 hours per week.
  • Hours of operation 6 am – 5 pm; the manager allows the employee to pick their start time as long as an eight-hour shift is completed.
  • This role is in-office and not remote.
  • During the initial training period, the manager conducts a 100% review of each case for the first two months and provides feedback; after that, cases are audited monthly for a percentage of the caseload with feedback on the audited cases.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: critical care, emergency medicine, surgical, pediatrics, advanced practice nursing, and billing and coding experience (preferred).
  • Preferred hospital nursing, utilization management, and/or case management experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to take initiative and see tasks through to completion.
  • Knowledge of InterQual and other references for medical necessity determinations (preferred).
