Requirements
  • Four to six years of experience.
  • A Bachelor's Degree.

  • Hands-on apparel product development experience.
  • Experience managing the end-to-end apparel development lifecycle from concept through production.
  • Experience with apparel design, fabrication, trims, color, graphics, fit, construction, costing, sampling, and approvals.
  • Experience partnering with designers, vendors, sourcing teams, production partners, and factories.
  • Strong understanding of apparel trends, the competitive landscape, consumer behavior, and product positioning.
  • Ability to translate brand and consumer insights into commercially viable, differentiated apparel collections.
  • Ability to make recommendations and decisions independently with managerial guidance.
  • Availability during core hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and ability to work 30 hours weekly to maintain full-time status.
  • Ability to perform the stated office-based physical activities, including occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute the strategic vision for assigned areas while supporting multiple cruise line profiles.
  • Develop merchandising standards for onboard retail and partner with visual and marketing teams to execute the vision and drive sales.
  • Source, develop, and manage vendors and factories with strong product development capabilities.
  • Lead new and differentiated products from concept through commercialization while negotiating cost, terms, gross margin, minimum order quantities, lead times, exclusivity, and vendor support.
  • Create execution strategies for customer-centric retail experiences and product concepts relevant to each cruise line's brand, guest demographics, and itineraries.
  • Translate trends, customer insights, and white-space opportunities into innovative products and collections.
  • Maintain competitive market awareness in domestic and travel retail channels and translate relevant trends into actionable product development concepts and commercial opportunities.
  • Review category, vendor, and ship performance with the Merchandise Manager.
  • Deliver relevant, profitable assortments driven by consumer trends, cruise line demographics, and data-based insights.
  • Manage assortment mix across key items, exclusives, and novelty items based on guest demand and consumer trends.
  • Create pricing strategies that provide competitive price advantages and consumer savings within each itinerary and market.
  • Optimize stock-keeping unit count and assortment breadth and depth based on ship profile and volume.
  • Work with brands on exclusive product and First at Sea assortment opportunities.
  • Prepare for and independently conduct vendor meetings.
  • Lead the end-to-end product development process from concept and ideation through sourcing, costing, sampling, approvals, production, and final launch.
  • Translate consumer trends, cruise line brand identities, guest demographics, itineraries, and business opportunities into commercially viable product concepts and collections.
  • Partner with vendors, factories, designers, and internal teams to develop custom products, private-label merchandise, exclusive collections, and differentiated product opportunities.
  • Create product briefs covering design direction, target retail, target cost, margin expectations, quantities, quality expectations, and delivery timelines.
  • Review and provide detailed feedback on computer-aided designs, artwork, colors, materials, samples, packaging, branding, and product specifications.
  • Manage product development calendars and critical paths to achieve milestones and launch dates.
  • Identify development risks related to cost, quality, minimum order quantities, lead time, production capacity, and delivery, and recommend solutions.
  • Maintain a pipeline of newness and white-space opportunities supporting future assortment and growth strategies.
  • Evaluate new product performance and apply learnings to future product development decisions.
  • Position assigned areas to meet or exceed financial targets through business insights and retail execution.
  • Analyze, evaluate, and reset performance by business, brand, and ship, focusing on core, white-space, and exclusive assortment opportunities.
  • Manage inventory currency, process markdowns, and optimize stock-keeping units to maintain clean inventories and age standards.
  • Negotiate favorable margins and vendor support for profit initiatives and establish product life cycles to manage inventory flow.
  • Prepare monthly open-to-buy presentations covering performance, successes, opportunities, and short-term strategies for merchandising and planning leadership.
  • Develop strong working relationships with the planning partner and build relationships across departments.
  • Leverage organizational relationships to execute strategic priorities and synthesize scalable business opportunities.
  • Drive cross-departmental initiatives through peer collaboration.
  • Lead and develop one or more direct reports.
  • Occasionally work evenings and weekends as job duties require.
