Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to reflect and articulate lessons learned from past experience.
  • A minimum of two years of counseling experience in an urban public school or charter school setting is preferred but not required.
  • Commitment to improving services through collaboration, best practices, regular assessment, and data analysis.
  • Effective communication skills with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • An MS in School Counseling or MSW with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Responsibilities
  • Deliver comprehensive counseling services, activities, programs, and interventions critical to the academic and personal/social development of all students.
  • Run individual and group counseling sessions using research-based social and emotional practices.
  • Facilitate professional development for teachers on child development and its effect on academic and social/emotional performance.
  • Build relationships and collaborate with external education and social services professionals to develop appropriate agency services for students and families.
  • Develop a written annual plan that is data-driven and includes measurable goals appropriately scoped and sequenced to school and student needs.
  • Utilize Early Warning Indicators to implement targeted interventions for at-risk students.
  • Administer regular needs assessments to identify and prioritize school and student needs.
  • Advocate and intervene on behalf of students whose immediate needs, concerns, or problems impede their academic or personal/social development.
  • Demonstrate program accountability using data to document the results of strategies and interventions used to improve student academic performance.
  • Partner with administrators, teachers, students, parents, and the community to remove barriers to student success and close the achievement gap.
  • Protect the confidentiality of student and staff records and information, using discretion and adhering to state laws and school policies when sharing it.
  • Collaborate regularly with the Scholar Support Team to develop plans meeting the needs of all learners.
  • Engage in a limited number of evening or weekend student recruitment and parent outreach events.
Desired Qualifications
  • Speaking Spanish or having experience working with bilingual students.
