The role
We’re hiring a Director of Legal. In this role you will be responsible for driving the company’s legal and compliance functions. You will serve as a solutions-oriented advisor, partnering with senior team members on all aspects of the business. A successful candidate should be comfortable with a fast-paced and dynamic environment in a regulated industry, demonstrate superb judgment, and effectively manage multiple priorities.
Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise legal operational functions for a hypergrowth, VC-backed healthcare SaaS company
- Drive the redlining and negotiation process with major enterprise customers and strategic partners
- Analyze applicable laws and regulations and advise internal business clients on the corresponding impact upon Overjet’s business, services, and operations
- Review and draft legal correspondence, contracts, regulatory submissions, and other legal documents
- Oversee compliance programs and controls
- Provide expert, ethical, and pragmatic advice on a wide range of matters
- Select and manage 3rd party legal resources in the execution of the above
Requirements
- JD degree
- 6+ years experience as an attorney with a mix of big law firm and in-house experience
- Strong commercial negotiation, business acumen, and contract drafting expertise
- Ability to communicate clearly to a variety of audiences (including non-legal business partners and executives) your viewpoint and the significance of why certain issues matter for the business.
- Excellent business judgment and ability to balance risk-reward in a manner to provide pragmatic, solution-oriented advice that does not compromise core legal protections
- Ability to help the organization calibrate on legal risk when there’s not a clear answer
- Preference for candidates with legal experience in a high-growth SaaS startups; healthcare background or experience in a regulated industry a plus
- Experience with regulatory, customer, and vendor relations preferred
