Cboe and Nasdaq on track for record options trading volume for seventh consecutive year

The US options market is set for a seventh consecutive record year, with leading exchange operators Cboe Global Markets and Nasdaq reporting strong growth. Cboe posted record second-quarter 2026 results, with net revenue rising 25% year-over-year to $732 million. Its derivatives business drove growth, with index options average daily volume up 32% to 6.2 million contracts. Nasdaq reported $1.5 billion in net revenue for the same period, up 15%. Its index options revenue more than doubled for the fourth straight quarter, whilst index exchange-traded product assets under management crossed $1 trillion. Both exchanges are expanding beyond core offerings. Cboe recently launched Cboe Predicts, featuring binary options on the Mini-S&P 500 Index. It's also developing company-specific key performance indicator contracts, pending regulatory approval.

Nasdaq hires Jackson McGonagle to lead digital assets and tokenization strategy

Jackson McGonagle has joined Nasdaq as AVP of Capital Markets Digital Assets Strategy, tasked with advancing the exchange's digital asset and tokenisation efforts. His career spans traditional finance and crypto, including roles at NYSE Euronext, Binance, and Fidelity Digital Assets. McGonagle arrives as Nasdaq moves blockchain technology into its core infrastructure. In July, Nasdaq participated in a live production event with the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation, using DTC-tokenised assets in production trades. This week, prediction-market platform Kalshi announced it would adopt Nasdaq Market Surveillance in a phased rollout. The move demonstrates how traditional financial infrastructure is being adopted by digital-asset businesses as they scale.
