Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • At least 1 year of coaching experience is required.
  • National Federation of State High School Associations Fundamentals of Coaching Certification is required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required to relate effectively with students, coaches, staff, physicians, parents, teachers, and administrators.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities simultaneously are required.
  • The ability to work flexible hours, including frequent evenings and weekends, is required.
  • Physical activity including walking, standing, dancing, running, bending, crouching, reaching, lifting, and carrying is required.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate or assist with coordinating the Kamehameha athletic sports program.
  • Coach and instruct student-athletes and perform duties necessary for player and team development.
  • Apply knowledge of diving rules, regulations, skills, tactics, and techniques to athletes.
  • Translate sport knowledge to athletes and develop and evaluate individual and team performance and progress.
  • Teach individual and team skills and help athletes reach their full potential.
  • Organize and supervise safe, efficient practices and games, use coaching staff effectively, and prepare the team for competitions.
  • Conduct oneself ethically and professionally, serve as a positive role model, and motivate and inspire athletes.
  • Develop team concepts within the organization's values-driven framework and promote sportsmanship and respect for rules and officials.
  • Handle administrative responsibilities including disciplinary issues, medical and academic eligibility, grade checks, student-athlete records, timesheets, human resources requirements, equipment, uniforms, budgeting, and inventory.
  • Communicate with athletes, parents, faculty, administrators, coaches, and the community, and promote the program locally and statewide.
  • Travel to various locations, including neighboring islands, to conduct business.
Desired Qualifications
  • Participation in high school or collegiate athletics is preferred.
  • High school or collegiate coaching experience is preferred.
  • Sensitivity to Hawaiian culture and Christian values is preferred.
