Requirements
  • Knowledge of medium- and high-voltage electrical systems, including Battery Energy Storage Systems, microgrids, inverter-based resource configurations, protection and control philosophies, and utility-scale grounding and electrical safety design.
  • Knowledge of electrical topologies and distribution systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable electrical codes and standards, including the National Electrical Safety Code, National Electrical Code, National Fire Protection Association standards, American National Standards Institute standards, utility interconnection standards, IEEE 1547, IEEE 2800, IEEE 1584, IEEE 519, and IEEE 80, with the ability to apply them through code analysis and system design.
  • Knowledge of power systems engineering and design software for short-circuit, arc-flash, harmonic, and power-flow analysis, including ETAP, SKM, or ASPEN, as well as electromagnetic-transient simulation tools such as PSCAD or equivalent.
  • Strong working knowledge of Battery Energy Storage Systems, microgrids, and inverter-based resource interconnection requirements, including protection coordination, anti-islanding and transfer-trip schemes, and LGIA/SGIA utility-interconnection processes.
  • Hands-on experience with protective relay platforms such as SEL or an equivalent, including settings development, coordination, and field-commissioning support.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams, along with strong file-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to leverage artificial intelligence and emerging technologies to streamline workflows and optimize operational processes.

  • Hands-on protective relay experience, including settings development and coordination.
  • Direct experience navigating LGIA/SGIA processes and utility-interconnection requirements.
  • Experience supporting multidisciplinary Battery Energy Storage System or power-systems design and working with utilities or owner engineering teams on utility, renewable, data-center, or industrial projects.
Responsibilities
  • Perform detailed design, analysis, and engineering of Battery Energy Storage System, microgrid, and inverter-based resource systems while ensuring compliance with customer and utility requirements, industry standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate Battery Energy Storage System and inverter-based resource designs into substation, generation, and grid-interconnection infrastructure.
  • Support technical scoping, design, and utility/developer coordination for medium- and high-voltage Battery Energy Storage System, microgrid, and inverter-based resource interconnections, including protection philosophy, interconnection studies, and IEEE 1547 and IEEE 2800 compliance.
  • Contribute to engineering approaches, design standards, and technical risk management.
  • Support project delivery as engineer of record or in support of the engineer of record, contributing to technical accuracy, constructability, and code compliance.
  • Apply and maintain engineering standards, design criteria, and quality expectations for energy-storage work.
  • Develop Battery Energy Storage System one-line and three-line diagrams and alternating-current/direct-current schematics.
  • Develop physical layouts, equipment arrangements, and site plans for containerized or modular Battery Energy Storage System installations.
  • Develop direct-current architectures including battery racks, inverters or power-conversion systems, and medium-voltage collection systems.
  • Design grounding systems and electrical safety systems.
  • Develop protection and control philosophies, relay schemes, and coordination.
  • Develop Battery Energy Storage System and microgrid interconnection one-lines, protection and control schemes, and anti-islanding and transfer-trip logic.
  • Coordinate fire detection and suppression and thermal management with mechanical disciplines.
  • Develop and review equipment specifications for battery modules, power-conversion systems, transformers, switchgear, protection relays, and communications or supervisory control and data acquisition systems.
  • Perform complex engineering studies with general guidance.
  • Perform or direct short-circuit, arc-flash, harmonic, power-flow, and electromagnetic-transient studies, including fault, harmonic, and dynamic contributions from Battery Energy Storage Systems and other inverter-based resources.
  • Support interconnection application processes and LGIA/SGIA coordination with utilities, developers, and Battery Energy Storage System vendors.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards and utility requirements and help resolve technical conflicts and ambiguities.
  • Use AutoCAD and Revit to prepare drawings and visual aids.
  • Coordinate the project design team, including resource forecasting.
  • Identify potential project-scope changes and help develop strategies to minimize their impact and control deviations from estimated costs and deadlines.
  • Work with clients to understand project requirements, provide technical insights, and support client satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support resolution of design, construction, and field issues, escalating business or contractual risks when leadership involvement is required.
  • Support construction, testing, commissioning, and energization through requests for information, field engineering, and technical troubleshooting.
  • Participate in technical reviews, design meetings, and client presentations.
  • Prepare project design and construction documents.
  • Prepare project progress reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Update and maintain shop-drawing and request-for-information logs.
  • Manage personal hours using company tools.
  • Lead the strategic use of technology, digital platforms, and artificial-intelligence-enabled tools to improve workflow automation, forecasting, documentation, reporting, and quality processes.
  • Support adoption of advanced analytics, data-visualization tools, and digital construction-management platforms.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to align technology solutions with company standards for data security, privacy, and operational integrity.
  • Complete assigned tasks and deliverables on time and on budget.
  • Travel up to 20% for client sites, meetings, business-development activities, conferences, and other business activities.
Desired Qualifications
  • Eight or more years of progressive utility-interconnection or power-systems engineering experience.
  • Direct hands-on experience on at least one Battery Energy Storage System, microgrid, or inverter-based resource interconnection project from interconnection application or study through protection design and commissioning.
  • Working knowledge of IEEE 2800 or IEEE 1547 interconnection standards for inverter-based resources.
  • Electromagnetic-transient simulation experience using PSCAD or an equivalent tool.
  • Familiarity with NFPA 855 or battery-energy-storage fire-protection and life-safety design.

Why Accenture buying DLB stake boosts data centre builds. Accenture will acquire 65% of DLB Associates to expand end-to-end data centre development capabilities as AI demand accelerates Accenture has agreed to acquire a majority stake in DLB Associates (DLB), strengthening its ability to deliver end-to-end data centre development services as hyperscalers and cloud providers race to deploy AI-ready infrastructure. The transaction will see Accenture take a 65% stake in the US-based data centre engineering and consulting firm, subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals. The move is aimed squarely at addressing growing infrastructure constraints faced by technology companies as demand for AI-enabled compute continues to rise. Accenture says the acquisition will expand its capital projects capabilities, allowing it to support clients from early site selection through to engineering, construction and operational optimisation. Founded in 1980, DLB has built a reputation as a specialist in data centre site selection, due diligence, design engineering, commissioning, construction quality management and energy optimisation. The firm works with hyperscalers, emerging hyperscalers, neo-cloud providers and colocation operators, helping them bring facilities online at pace while meeting technical and operational requirements. Expanding end-to-end data centre delivery. Upon completion of the transaction, DLB's approximately 620 employees will join Accenture's Industry X practice, augmenting its infrastructure and capital projects capabilities. DLB will continue to be led by David Quirk and Neil Chauhan, with the firm's expertise integrated into Accenture's broader global delivery model. "As AI-driven demand for data center capacity accelerates, our clients increasingly face infrastructure constraints that impact their core value chains," says Julie Sweet, Chair and CEO of Accenture. "Along with DLB's deep expertise, Accenture will offer an end-to-end capability from the earliest stages of conceptual design and strategic site development through to advanced engineering, rapid deployment, and operational performance. DLB's work spans the full data centre lifecycle, from early planning and feasibility through to commissioning and operational readiness. The company has also played a role in shaping industry standards, including co-founding the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers Technical Committee TC9.9, which focuses on mission-critical data centre infrastructure. Meeting hyperscale and AI-driven demand. DLB's leadership says the partnership reflects the scale and urgency now shaping the data centre sector, particularly as AI workloads drive higher density facilities and compressed build timelines. "The data centre industry is experiencing significant growth amid an unprecedented push for scaling and DLB is at the forefront of helping clients quickly navigate every stage of the development lifecycle," says David Quirk, CEO of DLB. "We selected Accenture to unleash our ability to match that scale and help support clients through value creation and joint ideation for next-generation AI data centre - at pace." Neil Chauhan, Chief Innovation Officer at DLB, points to the pace of deployment now expected by cloud and colocation operators. Capital projects become a strategic focus. For Accenture, the acquisition sits within a broader strategy to expand its infrastructure and capital projects services, including data centre development. The company has made a series of acquisitions since 2023 to build regional and technical depth across planning, construction management and programme delivery. "We are entering a new era where companies need AI-ready infrastructure that's built rapidly, efficiently, reliably and at scale," says Manish Sharma, Chief Strategy and Services Officer at Accenture. "Its clients are facing challenges as they execute on their scale ambitions and look to Data Centre Magazine to help them with site planning and selection, managing staffing shortages, ensuring sustainability, and protecting against cybersecurity risks. "By pairing DLB's data centre services expertise with Accenture's global reach and strengths across supply chain, procurement, construction management and technology, we plan to address client demand for more value and innovation." DLB will expand Accenture's data centre footprint in the Americas, complementing previous acquisitions across the US, Europe and Asia-Pacific. The transaction terms were not disclosed, and closing is expected following regulatory review.
