Requirements
  • High school diploma.
  • Active State of Oregon Pharmacy Technician License, including completion and maintenance of job-specific competencies and certifications.
  • Computer keyboarding skills.
  • Ability to read and understand medical-related terms.
  • Ability to perform basic pharmaceutical mathematics calculations.
  • Skill at manipulating small objects such as needles, syringes, and ampules.
  • Ability to use a mechanical system for transfer of fluids.
  • Knowledge of and skill in applying aseptic technique.
  • Ability to establish priorities in workflow.
  • Ability to work under the supervision of diverse pharmacists.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation.
  • Ability to understand the difference between non-hazardous and hazardous medications and safely handle hazardous medications according to regulatory guidelines.
Responsibilities
  • Perform unit dose functions, including tubing medications from the pharmacy to hospital and clinic areas.
  • Repackage medications for unit dose dispensing and maintain and replenish stock for emergency trays and kits.
  • Return medications to stock and perform credits.
  • Record refrigerator temperature daily.
  • Process narcotics for removal from pharmacy inventory and order replacements as needed.
  • Maintain barcode medication integrity by ensuring medications are barcoded before leaving the pharmacy.
  • Perform computer order entry for inpatient and outpatient orders.
  • Fill unit dose medication orders.
  • Select ordered medications from inventory to fill new orders or provide 24-hour medication for distribution to patients' rooms.
  • Answer telephones, file records, perform billing and crediting, and maintain medication profiles.
  • Load and refill medications into automated dispensing cabinet stations.
  • Round to nursing locations and deliver items.
  • Remove excess and discontinued oral and injectable dosage units from patients' bins and refrigerators and return them to the pharmacy for action.
  • Prioritize labels from new orders to ensure products are delivered to the labeled location at least one hour before the label due time.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Completion of a formal pharmacy technician training program.
  • Inpatient and outpatient hospital pharmacy experience.
  • Knowledge of medical and scientific nomenclature.
