Requirements
  • BS in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting required
  • 2 - 4 years experience in the role of Staff Accountant with general ledger accounting including creating journal entries and account variance analysis
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Experience with complex account reconciliations for high volume transaction accounts
  • Strong analysis, communication and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with and ability to apply technological innovations to Business Office operations with strong computer skills
  • Advanced Excel skills, including experience with formulas, pivot tables, and data manipulation tools
  • Experience using Workday or other ERP software required
  • This position requires the successful completion of background and credit checks.
Responsibilities
  • Perform monthly and annual reconciliations and analyses to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data
  • Reconcile all monthly bank accounts
  • Review procurement and expense documents for compliance, accuracy, and proper account coding
  • Record and assist with maintaining general ledger journal and budget entries supporting the month-end and year-end close processes
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reporting
  • Utilize accounting software and systems to prepare financial reports, ensuring adherence to accounting standards such as GAAP
  • Supports tracking and reconciliation of grant funds or restricted accounts
  • Prepare year-end accruals and supporting schedules for the annual financial statement audit
  • Contribute to the production of annual financial statements
  • Records miscellaneous expense, reclassify as needed
  • Collaborate with internal departments to resolve discrepancies and provide financial information
  • Support process improvement efforts to enhance efficiency and accuracy within accounting operations
  • Responds to Positive Pay bank notices
  • Support the annual audit process, including liaising with external auditors and providing audit requests for documentation
  • Oversees the work of junior staff as needed
  • Assists with maintenance of Workday FDM (chart of account maintenance)
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting procedures to maintain and strengthen internal controls and training material (video, manual, training meetings)
  • Participates in WD and various training courses
  • Participates in cross divisional meetings focusing on inter-dependent processes and projects
  • Participates in departmental projects including analysis and testing of system and business process troubleshooting and/or upgrades
