Responsibilities
Collect patient information/history, taking vitals and performing screenings per provider guidelines.
Use sterile technique to prepare procedure rooms and surgical trays.
Comply with all company policies and procedures in adherence to HIPAA regulations.
Obtain a pertinent patient history and physical, communicating the information back to the dermatologic surgeon. Describe removal of the lesion, repair options, and postoperative wound care.
Assist with documentation in electronic medical record.
Record, manage, and update malignant and non-malignant pathology results in log.
Drape and prepare surgical site while maintaining sterile field, numb surgical site by injecting local anesthesia, achieve hemostasis using handheld cautery device, bandage patients appropriately based on surgical site.
Assist physician during all procedures (passing instruments, blotting, cutting sutures, etc).
Additional direct patient care responsibilities available with experience.
Gap year students welcome; ideally, two-year commitment but will seriously consider exceptional candidates for a shorter one-year term for bachelor’s degree candidates interested in later pursuing physician assistant, nursing, or medical school.
Desired Qualifications
Successful completion of the Medical Assistant program or equivalent hospital program preferred.
Minimum of one-year work experience in a medical practice preferred.
No experience is necessary, although it will be viewed favorably.
