In this role, you will be focused on leading and managing software development projects for QuidelOrtho’s cloud-based systems and POC (point of care) instruments. These instruments are class 2 medical devices that perform diagnostics for a variety of assays, including COVID-19, Flu, Lyme, Strep, and many more. Quidel currently has more than 100,000 instruments deployed worldwide and continues to add to its market share with new and existing instruments. As our instrument population grows, so does our need for increased instrument functionality and modularity.
The Software Team is actively working on a common architecture across all instrument types. We are modernizing the software across all our instruments to ensure we are prepared for our further expansion into international and domestic markets. We will drive this modernization by implementing modularized architecture methods, building up our instrument and cloud interconnectivity including fleet management and instrument performance data, and enhancing cybersecurity and test automation.
The Senior Software Project Manager will be critical in planning, executing, and completing software projects in support of these initiatives. As a part of the software team, you will work with our internal teams, stakeholders, and partners to drive software projects from start to completion, ensuring quality oversight and adherence to our standards throughout. You will be directly responsible for our team’s successful delivery of new enhancements and capabilities for our instruments and cloud-based systems.
The Software Engineering Team is responsible for lab, point of care, and over-the-counter medical diagnostic products, spanning from instrument firmware to cloud services to larger lab-based instruments.
This role is open to San Diego and/or remote.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Each day, you will be:
Hands-on, working with internal and 3rd party development teams to plan, execute and deliver enhancements to instrument and cloud based software
Directly responsible for managing all aspects of the project delivery, including:
- Working with key stakeholders to define project scope, objectives, goals, and outcomes
- Driving requirements gathering with key stakeholders
- Developing project schedule, milestones, and plan to meet the goals of the project
- Managing the development teams using software development process guidelines
- Communicating effectively with all levels project stakeholders as to status, milestones, risks and issues
Collaborate with software development teams, PMO, and internal stakeholders as needed to ensure design control and documentation requirements are properly managed in an FDA-regulated environment
Managing vendor relationships, contracts, and budgets
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field or equivalent experience
- 10+ years of project management experience, with minimum of 5+ years working in software development projects
- Effective communicator with excellent organizational and multitasking skills
- Experience working on software development teams using Agile processes
- Collaborative, results-driven, “roll up your sleeves” working style and be able to successfully partner with professionals across all levels the organization
- Scope management
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
- Experience managing 3rd party development teams is highly preferred
- Desired knowledge of delivering software projects in regulated environments (FDA/Medical is a big plus)
- Proficiency in project management tools and Microsoft Office
- Experience managing project budgets and financials
- Experience with managing contractual change orders processes
- Project estimation experience is preferred
