Requirements
  • Educated as a pharmacy technician
  • High School graduate or GED required
  • Minimum two (2) years of retail pharmacy experience is required
  • Minimum one (1) year of compounding experience is preferred, but not required
  • ONE of the following disciplines is required: Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board or Current licensure as an CMA in the State of Illinois
  • CPR certification per American Heart Association guidelines required within 30 days of hire
  • Have math proficiency for making dilutions and appropriate concentrations for allergy extracts and testing reagents
  • Be proficient in sterile technique
  • Be extremely organized and detail-oriented
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications
  • Assumes accountability and responsibility for own practice and that, which is delegated.
Responsibilities
  • Interpret allergen extract formulae and make precise measurements (syringes) to accurately produce patients’ allergy shot extracts
  • Use Excel and Word to produce extract records and vial labels
  • Prepare patch tests
  • Communicate with referring physician offices to coordinate timing of extract production and delivery/patient pick-up
  • Maintain allergy testing trays for environmental and food allergens
  • Prepare dilutions for venom (stinging insect) testing and medication testing
  • Properly handle and dispose of hazardous drugs and waste materials
  • Conduct routine weekly medication inventories and assist with inventory control of medications
  • Assist in ordering supplies and medications in a timely manner to avoid service delay
  • Receive and restock medications
  • Maintain any necessary QA logs, including but not limited to inventory logs, remittance statements, cleaning logs, temperature logs, and others
  • Maintain cleanliness of laboratory area and related equipment
  • Keep current on all licensures as well as Clinic safety modules
  • Participate in training and orientation of new employees as needed
  • Be a team player with clinical and office personnel. Work closely with nurses and physicians for allergy extract quality control
  • Comply with the Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedures
  • Adhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training & accomplishments as required per policy
  • Provide excellent customer service and adhere to Springfield Clinic's Code of Conduct and Ethics Standards
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.
