Requirements
  • A California Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license is required.
  • At least 12 years of experience in surveying, civil engineering, or a related field is required.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience overseeing and guiding office surveyors and survey technicians is required.
  • Expertise in survey equipment use, configuration, troubleshooting, procurement, and repair, including theodolites, total stations, drones, and GPS/GNSS equipment, is required.
  • Expertise in survey software, including GIS/GPS, aerial and non-aerial cartography, and data collectors, is required.
  • Proficient knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D, PDF software such as Bluebeam and Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Project is required.
  • Ability to learn and become proficient in new software and technologies is required.
  • Ability to maintain attention to detail and a high level of accuracy is required.
  • Strong work ethic is required.
  • Good interpersonal abilities for working in a team environment are required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and take direction is required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise the Roseville office surveyors and survey technicians as they develop solutions to technical problems, and oversee work production and quality control.
  • Provide day-to-day assignments and technical guidance to survey staff.
  • Manage surveying service functions that may include drafting, survey support, field surveying, document control, and other surveying support activities.
  • Ensure the timely, thorough, and accurate completion of survey services projects.
  • Ensure survey deliverables and documentation packages are complete.
  • Maintain project number assignments and customer documentation.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and mentor employees; manage project budgets and schedules; and design administrative procedures for the survey department.
  • Write performance reviews and resolve internal issues.
  • Provide party chief services for field surveying duties, including boundary and topographic surveys, ALTA surveys, and construction staking.
  • Perform in-office survey and mapping calculations and plans, and prepare construction staking cut sheets.
  • Perform survey mapping and fieldwork while using the firm's quality assurance and quality control checklists for survey deliverables.
  • Maintain at least a 70% utilization rate, stay within allotted task budgets, and maintain quality control.
  • Harvest and win new work from new and existing clients as the role expands.
  • Write scope and approach narratives for proposals and develop cost and fee estimates for work.
  • Keep abreast of state-of-the-art survey techniques.
  • Maintain relationships with team members, sub-consultants, vendors, and clients.
  • Communicate project expectations to team members and sub-consultants in a timely and clear manner.
  • Act as the liaison with project stakeholders on an ongoing basis.
  • Develop new business relationships to broaden the firm's client base.
  • Travel to conduct field visits, survey activities, and consultations with clients and agencies.
Desired Qualifications
  • Background in surveying complex properties and right-of-way issues.
  • Knowledge of land geographic information systems (GIS) and boundary law.
  • Familiarity with surveying for subdivisions, planned unit developments (PUDs), and parcel maps.
  • High attention to detail, flexibility, and adaptability to work in varying conditions.
