Requirements
  • Master's Degree Graduate from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs accredited school for anesthesia assistants (18-month or 24-month program).
  • Current certification from the National Certification Corporation for Anesthesia Assistants (NCCAA).
  • Current licensure from the Ohio State Medical Board.
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Must be eligible to obtain clinical privileges as designated by the Ohio State University Medical Center Corporate Credentialing Office.
Responsibilities
  • The Anesthesiologist Assistant functions as an integral member of the patient care team whose members reflect a culture of cooperation, enthusiasm, and mutual respect.
  • The team provides patient care and supportive services that are directed toward the achievement of quality patient care outcomes, improvement of service levels, reduction in length of hospitalizations and reduction of cost.
  • The Anesthesiologist Assistant demonstrates excellence in all areas of anesthesia practice including but not limited to anesthesia case management, staff education, and clinical research.
  • The Anesthesiologist Assistant manages complex, unpredictable anesthesia situations.
  • The Anesthesiologist Assistant must be competent in technical, cognitive and interpersonal skills required to serve patients receiving anesthesia care and services.
  • The Anesthesiologist Assistant is expected to practice within established Medical Center guidelines, statutes established by the state medical board, anesthesia policies, procedures, and protocols, and adhere to the Intensive Caring Value Statements.
  • The Anesthesiologist Assistant works as a member of the patient care team and collaborates with a Medical Doctor Anesthesiologist in the anesthetic care of each patient.
