Requirements
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario is required.
  • A Practical Nursing Diploma from an accredited community college program with evidence of intravenous medication administration in the basic curriculum; alternatively, a Practical Nursing Diploma plus an intravenous medication administration certificate, or a Practical Nursing Certificate plus medication administration and intravenous medication certificates, is required.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support/Health Care Provider certification is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, sensitivity, and expertise in caring for seniors and their families.
  • Demonstrated ability to practice within the full scope of nursing practice according to College of Nurses of Ontario standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with patients, clients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities and organize work in response to client and patient needs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of transfers and lifts.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning, professional development, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, internet searching, data entry, and patient information systems.
  • An excellent work performance and attendance record is essential.
Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing care to clients through supportive, preventive, therapeutic, palliative, and rehabilitative means to promote health and maintain or attain optimal function.
  • Provide care for less complex clients whose outcomes are predictable and whose risk of negative outcomes is low.
  • Recognize changes in client acuity or complexity and consult with a registered nurse to determine next steps in care.
  • Collaborate closely with registered nurses to provide safe and effective care.
  • Practice in accordance with the organization's mission and values, policies and procedures, and College of Nurses standards and guidelines.
Desired Qualifications
  • Gentle Persuasive Approach training.
  • At least one year of recent related clinical nursing experience in acute medical nursing.
  • Knowledge and experience with telemetry monitoring and focused clinical assessment.
