Requirements
  • A High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • The ability to properly operate stoves, ovens, mixers, dishwashers, food scales, and other food preparation tools is required.
  • Proficiency in food handling and safety procedures is required, including HACCP regulations and food handling guidelines.
  • An understanding of the facility's standards for acceptable food service is required.
  • The ability to use food, supplies, cleaning agents, and other hospital resources responsibly is required.
  • An intermediate understanding of food preparation, cooking, and clinical diets is required.
  • The ability to read advanced food preparation directions, recipes, chemical instructions, facility signage, and written supervisor instructions in English is required.
  • The ability to communicate in English with hospital patients about diet histories, nutritional assessments, and food allergies is required.
  • The ability to calculate ingredient adjustments and basic cleaning-product measurements is required.
  • The ability to respond to commonly occurring problems and situations using established standards, procedures, or precedents is required.
  • The ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, handle objects and controls, reach with hands and arms, and lift 25 pounds from floor to waist level is required.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare nutritious and attractive patient meals according to standardized facility menus.
  • Read and comprehend recipe instructions and adjust ingredient measurements as needed.
  • Serve and store food at proper temperatures while following food-handling and equipment-safety measures.
  • Record and log temperature measurements and label refrigerated and frozen food items with required identifying information.
  • Operate food-preparation and cleaning equipment within the department.
  • Stock food and supplies in the proper areas throughout the department.
  • Assist with developing orders for food and supplies.
  • Assist with food preparation for special meals and events.
  • Apply basic infection-control knowledge to prevent foodborne illness during food preparation and delivery.
  • Maintain the Dietary department in a clean and sanitary condition.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous experience in food service, food preparation, cooking, or clinical diets is preferred.
