Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • The employee must communicate professionally and courteously with patients and clinic staff.
  • The employee must be able to sit for at least one hour at a time.
  • The employee must be able to stand and walk for up to 20 minutes at a time.
  • The employee must be able to bend, stoop, reach, squat, and occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.
  • The employee must be able to assist patients in and out of treatment chairs with support from other staff members.
  • The employee must be able to unpack and maneuver medical products and supplies, including durable medical equipment boxes weighing over 50 pounds.
  • The employee must be able to lift and move full casting-water basins weighing approximately 20 pounds.
  • The employee must be able to kneel or stoop to position patients' feet for radiographs and lift digital radiograph sensors weighing 10 pounds.
  • The employee must be able to assist elderly, incapacitated, and wheelchair-bound patients with transfers and treatment preparation.
  • The employee must be able to hold limbs in position during casting and bandage procedures, including limbs weighing over 50 pounds.
  • The employee must be able to lean over a sink for 15–20 minutes while processing instruments.
  • The employee must be able to prepare sterile trays and assist with podiatric procedures requiring concentration and proactive involvement.
  • The employee must be able to perform routine nail debridements under physician supervision.
  • The employee must be able to draw and deliver medications accurately, including measuring exact doses.
  • The employee must be able to accurately record patient complaints, medical histories, medication lists, vital signs, and other information in electronic charts.
  • The employee must be able to maintain supplies, clean treatment areas, remove trash, and perform related physical office tasks.
  • The employee must comply with Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act regulations.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare patients for examination by taking vital signs and recording medical history in Epic.
  • Escort patients to and from examination rooms.
  • Order, sort, store, and restock medical supplies and examination rooms.
  • Clean examination areas, set up instruments and equipment, and clean the sterilizer.
  • Greet patients, answer office phones, perform data entry, schedule appointments, assist front-office staff, and complete manual insurance verifications.
  • Schedule surgeries by coordinating with surgical centers, verifying times with patients, and preparing charts, pre-admission forms, and consent forms.
  • Assist the physician with procedures.
  • Administer injections as directed by the physician.
  • Perform casting for orthotics, apply below-knee casts, apply low-dye strapping, and apply Unna boots.
  • Perform nail debridement and callus or corn debridement.
  • Perform dressing changes.
  • Perform radiographs.
  • Document phone calls, return patient messages, and complete in-baskets.
  • Update logs.
  • Assist with patient transfers, including helping patients into and out of treatment chairs and moving limbs, shoes, and boots.
  • Prepare, rinse, cleanse, package, and sterilize instruments.
  • Prepare sterile trays and assist with procedures by passing medications, cutting sutures, performing saline flushes, retrieving specimens, and applying bandages.
  • Draw and deliver medications such as lidocaine, marcaine, and cantharone.
  • Bring patients from the waiting room to treatment rooms, assist them into chairs, take vital signs, and enter clinical information into electronic charts.
  • Maintain back-office inventory and replenish supplies.
  • Clean chairs, counters, cabinets, and other touched surfaces after patient visits; remove trash and replace bags.
  • Transport collected trash to the on-site dumpster.
  • Comply with organizational policies, procedures, code of conduct, compliance training, and timely issue reporting.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least one year of experience is preferred.
  • Medical Assistant certification is preferred.
  • Experience with Epic is preferred.
