Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Social Work, Psychology, Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling, Counseling, Behavioral Science, Criminal Justice, or a related field.
  • At least two years of experience assisting and providing advocacy services to victims of domestic abuse or sexual assault.
  • Availability for on-call coverage and flexible hours, including after-hours telework.
  • Ability to obtain the Basic Advocate credential with Comprehensive Intervention Specialist designation within six months of hiring.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
  • Willingness to comply with government vaccination requirements and provide proof of a negative tuberculosis skin test.
Responsibilities
  • Provide non-clinical emergent and urgent support to Air Force personnel, their family members, or intimate partners who are victims of domestic abuse.
  • Provide follow-up advocacy services, including empowering victims, supporting decision-making, helping prioritize actions, establishing goals, and providing military and civilian resource referrals.
  • Establish case-by-case victim safety plans and coordinate with treatment or case managers, Family Advocacy personnel, mental health providers, and other support resources.
  • Advise victims about the impact of domestic violence on children and support efforts to have children assessed and treated as needed.
  • Accompany victims to appointments or court proceedings when requested.
  • Brief the treatment or case manager before coordinated community staffing to provide current information about the victim and children.
  • Maintain a process to keep the team lead and designated points of contact informed of the advocate's location, arrival, departure, and service timelines.
  • Evaluate the quality of the installation's coordinated community response and collaborate with base agencies to improve system response.
  • Collaborate with Security Forces Squadron and Office of Special Investigations personnel to establish protocols for 24-hour notification and safety planning.
  • Collaborate with the Military Treatment Facility to establish protocols for 24-hour notification and train personnel on the Domestic Abuse Victim Advocate role.
  • Provide on-call emergency services after duty hours and ad-hoc telework when in-person support is not required.
