Requirements
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario is required.
  • A Practical Nursing Diploma from an accredited college program with evidence of intravenous medication administration in the basic educational curriculum, or a Practical Nursing Diploma plus an intravenous medication administration certificate from an accredited college program, or a Practical Nursing Certificate plus medication administration and intravenous medication administration certificates from accredited college programs, is required.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support/Health Care Provider certification is required.
  • Minimum of 8 months of nursing experience in a medical/surgical setting is required.
  • Completion of an Epidural/Patient-Controlled Analgesia pain management therapy course is required.
  • Ability to function to the full scope of practice as specified by the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, maintain good interpersonal relationships, and set workload priorities.
  • Commitment to patient-centred care.
  • Problem-solving and organization skills and the ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to professional development and continuing education.
  • Good work performance and attendance record are essential.
Responsibilities
  • Incorporate the College of Nurses of Ontario and unit-specific standards and competencies into nursing practice.
  • Provide care to clients who are individuals or groups of individuals, including family members and significant others.
  • Seek consultation with the Registered Nurse or Charge Nurse when client situations are beyond the Registered Practical Nurse’s scope of practice.
  • Participate as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Remain individually accountable for nursing decisions and actions.

  • Knowledge, sensitivity, and expertise in caring for seniors and their families.
  • Gentle Persuasive Approach training.
  • Previous experience in nephrology, urology, peritoneal or hemodialysis, or transplant nursing.
