Responsibilities
  • Teach two undergraduate Technical Theatre courses per semester (Fall and Spring).
  • Supervise student lighting design, stage design, and construction for productions.
  • Collaborate with faculty on the development, refinement, and implementation of the Technical Theatre curriculum.
  • Help ensure that Theatre facilities and equipment are maintained and functional.
  • Assist in the growth and recruitment of students into the Technical Theatre program.
  • Actively contribute to department, college, university, and professional service.
  • Maintain a consistent record of scholarship or creative work in the field.
  • Provide academic advising and mentorship to Theatre majors, with a focus on students pursuing the Technical Theatre track.
  • Design and produce scenic elements and props for a minimum of two mainstage productions per academic year.
  • Develop a cohesive artistic vision and technical strategy for each production in collaboration with directors and designers.
  • Coordinate with faculty, students, and production teams.
  • Purchase materials within a given budget.
  • Assist in the coordination of construction, painting, and installation of scenic and/or prop elements of production.
  • Assist with the strike and auditorium restoration post-production.
  • Aid in the maintenance of inventory for tools, scenic materials, props, and stock scenery.
  • Address a wide range of technical theatre issues, including safety protocols.
  • Work closely with the Theatre Technical Director and Associate Technical Director to plan and coordinate technical needs for each show.
  • Collaborate on the training, supervising, and scheduling of work-study and student workers enrolled in Technical Theatre Lab courses (TH 111, TH 211, TH 311) to ensure proper instruction in tool use, shop safety, and set construction techniques.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience teaching Technical Theatre at the college level across a range of topics, including scenic design, lighting, sound, stagecraft, and production management.
