Requirements
  • One year of previous custodial experience.
  • Knowledge of the proper use of floor-care machines, including stripping machines, waxer/buffers, and water pickups.
  • Knowledge of custodial materials, methods, and equipment, including operational-level skills.
  • Oral communication skills to obtain or convey clear, concise, and grammatically correct information.
  • Ability to write standard English text at the complete-sentence level for inspection reports, forms, and supply orders.
  • Working knowledge of custodial cleaning and/or general maintenance duties and services.
  • Ability to coordinate work projects and direct and inspect subordinates’ work.
  • Ability to lead small groups of individuals to successfully accomplish tasks.
  • Ability to correct workmanship inaccuracies and communicate customer concerns to supervision.
  • Ability to maintain custodial service quality consistent with University and department standards.
  • Skill in reading technical instructions related to custodial work, including equipment operating instructions and job-function documents.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with peers, subordinates, supervisors, administrators, customers, visitors, and outside agencies.
  • Working knowledge of standard safe-work practices.
  • Ability to maintain good attendance.
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends.
  • Ability to work various shifts.
  • California Class C driver’s license and ability to drive a truck or other light vehicle in the course of duties.
Responsibilities
  • Provide custodial services and maintain campus facilities, including laboratories, recreational facilities, vivariums, patient-care areas, and other University spaces.
  • Coordinate custodial work projects.
  • Direct and inspect the work of subordinates.
  • Lead small groups to successfully accomplish assigned tasks.
  • Correct inaccuracies in workmanship.
  • Communicate customer concerns to supervision.
  • Complete inspection reports, forms, and supply orders.
  • Work scheduled shifts from 5:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, with overtime and weekend work as required.
