Storion Energy manufactures vanadium electrolyte and VRFB components in the United States, building a domestic supply chain for long-duration energy storage. Its core product is domestically produced vanadium electrolyte made through proprietary purification and continuous manufacturing, with an electrolyte leasing option to reduce upfront costs for customers. The company leverages a partnership between Stryten Energy and Largo Clean Energy to combine battery manufacturing know-how with access to high-quality vanadium, creating an integrated supply chain. Storion’s goal is to make VRFBs more affordable and reliable for utility-scale storage, data centers, microgrids, and mission-critical sites by stabilizing supply and costs for long-duration storage.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Storion showcased data-center VRFB products at the International Flow Battery Forum on June 16, 2026.
  • RE+ 2026 and FBNA 2026 appearances signal active pipeline generation with utilities and developers.
  • Texas’s 48 MWh TerraFlow project secures an electrolyte lease, opening a repeatable revenue template.

What critics are saying

  • Largo disclosed going-concern uncertainty in Q1 2026, threatening Storion’s vanadium supply and funding.
  • Storion’s JV was diluted to 37.4% after a Q1 2026 capital raise, weakening control.
  • VRFB adoption stays niche; if TerraFlow’s Texas lease slips past 2027, commercialization stalls.

What makes Storion unique

  • Storion controls U.S. electrolyte plus stack manufacturing through Stryten and Largo, announced February 4, 2025.
  • Its electrolyte leasing model lowers upfront VRFB costs versus traditional customer-owned vanadium inventory.
  • TerraFlow Energy signed Storion for electrolyte and stacks on July 8, 2025, validating demand.
